SharePoint Intranet Design and Implementation

If you've had your website for a while, or have many different departments or locations, then perhaps you've already got an intranet. If you haven't got an intranet, and don't know much about them, here's what you need to know.

1. An intranet can be described as an internal internet that is used by employees. Perhaps you want to be able to have various online notice boards for staff policies and company documentation Intranet Features, or brochures or technical documents for sales and support staff. Because it can be accessed by a normal internet browser, it means that it can be accessed anywhere, and on numerous devices, not just computers.

2. Being able to share information quickly and easily, and have a central point for news and other important issues, will make your staff, and so your company, more effective. You can remove the need for a lot of paperwork, as forms can be filled in online, instead of having to be printed out and posted to different departments or locations.

3. Because staff are more effective and efficient, you can save time and money. You'll also find that you'll be finding all sorts of uses for your intranet.

4. Why not see how you can share data and documents that different departments need. What about seeing how you can add intranet features to your ecommerce website so that each department is informed when there has been a sale, or a technical support email has been received? How else will you make of your intranet?

5. An intranet will make teamwork easier and more effective. You now don't have to be in the same location as your team. Technical support or sales teams can be all over the country, or even the world.

6. You don't have to be in the same place as your colleagues. If you work from home, or from different company locations, you can still access the same information as if you were in the office.

7. You might not be office based, and so work remotely a lot of the time. How much difference would it be to have real time stock information, staff holidays or sales figures available wherever you are?

8. An intranet is cost effective and will make a big difference to your organisation. The only limit to what you can use it for is your imagination!

9. Why not see how you can improve staff communication using your intranet? What about posting your weekly sales meeting whilst on the train, or reading your latest sales brochure whilst waiting for a plane. As long as you've got internet access you can access your intranet.

10. By ensuring that you use an efficient content management system, it will be easy to upload new content, and edit existing content for your intranet.
