Social Anxiety Symptoms

Info

Social Anxiety interferes deeply with someone's normal life, personal and work relationships, might even interfere with family relationships in more extreme cases.

Social phobia is an intense fear to feel humiliated in common social situations, especially about acting in a way that might place you in an embarrassing situation in front of others or make you the center of attention. In some cases, it might be accompanied with depression or substance abuse.

If you suffer from social anxiety or social phobia you probably have the idea that other people are very socially skilled and that you’re not.

Small mistakes might seem bigger than they really are. It might feel like it’s very embarrassing to blush in public and you might feel like you’re constantly being observed.

You might be scared being around people you don’t know very well or your fear might be more specific like feeling anxiety if you have to give a speech, talk to your boss or another authority figure.

Shy people might feel uncomfortable when being around others, but won’t experiment extreme anxiety when anticipating a social situation.

On the other hand, people with social phobia are not necessarily shy.

They might feel at ease with people most times but in certain situations intense anxiety can be triggered. In most cases social anxiety affect the vast majority of the subjects social dynamics.

Social anxiety might interfere with the development of your professional career:

For example; only choosing jobs where your anxiety won’t be triggered and having great difficulty finding one because of the anxiety feeling. Anticipation fear might start weeks before an actual job interview happens and can be very tiring.

Final Notes:

Social Anxiety symptoms may even be qualified as irrational by the ones who feel them. However they’d much rather avoid confronting those social situations due to the enormous stress that means to confront them.

Anxiety sometimes might not even disappear after the provoking situation is over, posterior anxiety over the performance in that situation or wether you were being judged or not might remain.

This way, suffering from social anxiety might not even be about beign anxious in social situations. It could become a perpetual anxiety generating disorder for people who revive these previous of future social encounters in their minds.

A damaging and vicious thought loop that might seem externally silly, but once you're in this thought loop, life becomes a lot harder.
