Solar O&M – what it means and what it entails?

Solar OM services ensure that the life of your solar plants and modules remains intact and healthy. The objective is to ensure that the equipment runs optimally and maintains well with minimal depreciation. OM is a form of preventive maintenance, and you need OM specialists to plan and execute the plan.

OM experts carry out general and specific checks of the solar plant and panels. Operations Maintenance (OM) include a set of undertaken activities, especially solar PV plants, that optimally produce solar energy. Most of the things included in solar OM are classified into three categories – identifying issues and resolving them described as preventive maintenance, reducing downtime as corrective maintenance, and transparent reporting to predicting breakdowns. Towards this end, experts conduct general and specific checks.

General checks include:

Inspect the entire system to look for irregularities.

Check out loose wires, site cleanliness, debris collection, enclosure, and racking system corrosion, and that the drainage on the roof is adequate with no water pooling signs.

It is ensured that watertight roof penetrators are installed.

And, it is ensured that electrical enclosures are properly maintained and accessed only by authorized personnel.

The specific checks include:

The modules are cleaned properly based on specific requirements. For example, if the system is not too dirty, the cleaning is done once every fifteen days.

However, if the modules are dusty, weekly solar maintenance services are required.

While cleaning, it is essential to look into the total dissolved solids or TDS of the water to ensure that the water quality complies with the required standards.

It is crucial to research well to choose the right partner for OM services. It is vital to understand that operations and maintenance are not just about technology and processes; it is about having a partner who follows the best practices, adheres to international compliances about plant inspection and quality assessment.
