”It’s A Bird… It’s A Plane… no wait,, It’s Superman.. ”
I have to admit I always liked that part when out of nowhere comes Superman to save the day.. My only problem with Superman was that the only difference between Clark Kent & The Man of Steel were the glasses.. It’s kindda like the difference between Fouad El-Mohandes(Egyptian actor) & Mr. X.. Glasses on : Kent ; Glasses off : Superman..
But what was it that made Superman so special,, an icon in most people’s lives ?! Was it the Laser vision ? The Superhuman Strength ? Flying ? That’s some pretty cool stuff,, but is that why we love him,, really ?
Why do we love the man of steel ? That question kept going around in my head.. Then again what makes us love superheroes each in his own unique way ? How can one be a superhero without being an alien or inheriting some kind of fortune or due to some freaky science accident ?
Can normal people be Superheroes in their own right ? Can they find that one special thing ?
Superman saves the day,, he does what most people are afraid to do,, not because he can,, but because he’s not afraid to do it.. Everyday thousands of Supermen & Superwomen take that extra step,, I’m not talking about saving people from fire or avoiding massive disasters.. I mean those simple things,, like giving comfort to those who need it,, restoring faith that there’s still good in the world when all hope is gone..
The person who makes you feel comfort,, a parent,, a friend,, a stranger even.. Comfort with a word,, makes you regain trust with an action,, those who catch when you fall,, who put you back on track when you lose your way..
In our most desperate moments when we fail,, when we freefall into the unknown,, just like falling from the empire state building with the hope that Superman is coming to catch us just in time.. It’s pretty much the same really..
“A hero can be anyone. Even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat over a little boy’s shoulder to let him know the world hadn’t ended.”
Superman always comes in the nick of time to make the heroic rescue.. So why don’t we ? Everybody wants to be a superhero,, wants to be loved & appreciated,, yet we miss chances everyday just to do that.. A simple word of thanks,, reassurance,, assistance,, relief.. A show of trust in someone’s ability to go on.. Believing in people’s abilities,, ideas & innovations.. That is what makes us & them superheroes..
Every once in a while put on your cape & be Superman with the wind in your back.. head to the streets.. search for those in need of rescue.. a child in need of care,, an elder in need of assistance,, help someone in trouble,, not necessarily jumping of a building or attacked by animals that fled from the zoo.. maybe someone who needs help repairing their car or a woman with too many things to carry on her own.. Let it be known that there’s still good in the world.. & remember being Superman isn’t only for those who we don’t know.. a simple show of love for someone you love has the same effect as Superman saving Louis Lane.. Superman himself did that,, Clark Kent was a Super hero for Louis in his own compassionate kind way.. Also, a gesture of love and appreciation for family can gain as much love as that for Superman saving the whole world..
Superheroes show us that nothing is impossible if you believe.. That’s why we gather around them,, simply because we believe in them,, we believe they can.. In fact ,, without our belief & trust they wouldn’t be heroes at all..
Never underestimate the person infront of & never be derogatory of what others do.. for that could be the Superman act for someone else.. as much as possible for the capabilities available.. A simple act,, sincerely performed & embraced with love,, is appreciated & valued as more than Superheroic..
As a matter of fact.. Sometimes the most important people we need as superheroes in our lives are ourselves.. If we lose hope,, motivation,, trust,, all is lost.. Superman won’t be at the end of the tracks to save the train,, simply because the people in the train neither believe in Superman nor in themselves..

Kryptonite.. it’s all in your head,, only without others believing in you & your abilities do you lose your superpowers & no longer do the impossible,, & as a simple principle,, if you don’t want something to happen to you,, you shouldn’t do it to others.. Don’t become someone else’s Kryptonite just because you stopped believing,, or because when they were falling,, you weren’t there to catch them.. When they went crazy & did the impossible.. You stopped calling them Superman..
There’s a Superman in each of us,, we just have to believe in him for him to exist within us,, & with our actions that matter – for us and for others – no matter how simple they may seem,, we can be Men of Steel for others,, coming from the distance,, red cape behind us,, large ‘S’ on chest,, with people cheering, applauding and praising,, cause when it mattered we were there.. We came to save the day.. We were all Men of Steel.. Each of us.. Superman ..
