Taking Care of Your Horse - Know Its 4 Basic Needs?

Most horse owners agree to one point that no two horses are alike and they are different from one another. So, when you are taking care of your horse, make sure you have a customized health care routine for it. The following are some of the basic needs of your horse that you should look into-

1. Hydration- Water is very important for the health and well-being of your horse. Your horse approximately will drink about 5 - 15 gallons of water daily. So, make sure that your horse drinks fresh and clean water. You should make sure that the source of water is clean and free from contaminants. During the warmer months, your horse will drink more, and in the colder months, the source of water you keep for your horse might freeze. So, make sure the water is stored in a fresh and clean place where it is not prone to freezing and turning into ice. In case, your horse does not like to drink a lot of water or tends to sweat a lot, make sure that it has access to electrolyte supplements daily so that it does not face dehydration issues.

2. Food- The main diet of your horse is foliage and so make sure it has sufficient amounts of it in its diet. Racing horses you see at special tournaments on TVG and others have a special diet plan that should be strictly monitored. Make sure you know the amount of food your horse should consume. It should ideally consume about 1-2% of its body weight in order to stay fit and strong. In case, your horse cannot eat food from fresh pastures, make sure it consumes good quality hay.

3. Bond with your horse- Yes, horses need companionship like other animals. Horses find a lot of comforts if they are together in a group. Do not keep your horse isolated. Allow it to mingle with other horses of the herd so that it is mentally happy and not left alone.

4. Shelter- Your horse must be provided good and clean shelter. Though they are a strong species and can adjust to heat and cold, you should give your horse a clean shelter so that it is protected from the weather elements of Bootstrap Business. However, make sure you take it out for walks or else being trapped in a shelter all the time can be detrimental to its physical and mental health.
