Valentine's Day messages are often filled with promises of undying passion and ever-lasting love. Earlier this communication was done through love letters which were written in a flowery language on an appropriate letter pad. The lovers enjoyed reading and treasuring these letters for the future. Then times changed and Valentine's Day cards were introduced in the market. These were attractively made of fine paper, designed for the occasion with a proper message written in it. Some of these cards used to be extravagant and impressed the recipient no end.

A small number of cards were already being produced by printers portraying romantic sketches and romantic verses/poetry. This coupled with the cost of postage being reduced within the next century, led to many more people going down the slightly more commercial route of posting Valentine's cards.
This resulted in many being able to now exchange cards anonymously, which some belief is when the sudden appearance of more 'expressive' verses appeared in a time which was normally fairly conservative and Victorian.
"Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity.
