Pre-plastering preparation

Plastering can be a bit messy. It can cause a lot of trouble if you do not take this preparation. These preparations are

• Cover or remove furniture: While plastering, there are plaster chances to fall and stick on to your furniture. It is better if you can manage to remove them. Some furniture are hard to remove. In that case, you can use plastic covers to protect your furniture and floor as well.

• Ensure safety: Ensure that your electrical sockets are covered and electricity is turned off at the place where you will apply the plaster.

• Clean the surface and tools: You have to ensure that all your tools are clean. Before applying plaster, clean the surface with lukewarm or warm water. Without a clean surface and tools, the plaster might lose and will not last long.

Determine if the wall is high suction or low suction

One of the vital tasks before plastering is to check whether your wall is a high suction wall or low suction.

A high suction wall absorbs the moisture very quickly, which may cause the plaster to become dry quickly, and you won't be able to make it seamless.

With low suction walls, the plaster may remain wet and may not settle on the surface properly. Unsettled plaster may not be durable.

How to check the suction level of your wall

You can do a patch test on your wall. What you can do is put a little bit of plasters on a small section of your wall. Make sure the plaster is freshly made. After smearing the little portion of your wall with the newly made plaster, you can leave it for a few minutes.

After a few minutes, check the plaster if it is completely dry, then you have a high suction wall. If it is still wet, then you have a moderate suction wall.

If you find the plaster is still too wet even after a long time, then the wall is highly low suction. These problems can be solved by applying a primer.

Making the plaster mixture

Mixing plaster may seem challenging, but the correct amount of added ingredients can make it perfect. First, take a clean container and pour water. Then on that water, mix the plaster of equal amount.

Mix the plaster properly with the water, and make sure that you get the correct thickness. To check, you can use the mixing stick dip into the mixture and see if it stays standing without holding. If it stands, then plaster is well mixed. Also, make sure there are no lumps; you can do the mixing properly to ensure that.

The use of plasterboard

Modern plastering in construction requires plasterboard for skimming. Before skimming, use scream tape to join the plasterboards. This helps to save time and reduce effort, also save money by reducing the amount of plaster.

After joining the plasterboards for skimming, use a single layer of plaster of 2 to 3 mm. The process of plastering is similar to traditional plastering methods.

You take a bit of plaster on the trowel and smear the plaster all over the wall. Make sure that it is evenly smeared. Since you are using plasterboard, there is no need to do an overlap of another plaster layer.

Wait for a day until the plaster dries appropriately. When the plaster is dried, all the challenging process are over.
