The Best Places to Visit in Winter in the US

If you are planning a winter vacation in the United States, there are some great places to visit. You can enjoy the winter scenery in some of the best American cities, such as Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Seattle, and Red Rock National Park. You can even catch a holiday show to add a bit of magic to the season.

Lake Tahoe

If you are looking for an adventure, Lake Tahoe offers an abundance of winter activities. For example, you can drive around the lake to see its magnificent view. While you're there, consider sledding, which is a popular sport here. The snow is deep and fast, and you can rent sleds in many stores. You can also visit the popular ice rink in the nearby Heavenly Village. Open November through April, this rink has a magical winter wonderland feel.

Tahoe is also home to several wonderful local art galleries. You can see some amazing pieces of art at the Marcus Ashley Fine Art Gallery, Tahoe Art League, and Wyland Galleries. There are also several unique events that take place in the area during the winter. And if you love to listen to music, you can attend the Tahoe SnowGlobe music festival in South Lake Tahoe.

Yosemite

There are a lot of great reasons to visit Yosemite during the winter months. First of all, the snow and ice bring a quiet and peaceful atmosphere to the valley. Another reason to visit the park during the winter is the Ansel Adams Gallery's special exhibit on Yosemite during the winter, which includes Adams' black-and-white photographs and paintings inspired by the snowy winter landscape. Second, the ice and snow-covered cliffs make for some of the best views of the park. You can see some of the most majestic waterfalls in the area during this time of year.

Lastly, Yosemite has a variety of activities available to visitors. Snowmobiling through the giant sequoia groves is one of the best ways to experience this park's winter beauty. These trees are thousands of years old, and their red bark stands out against the snow. The surrounding environment is serene and tranquil, and the contrasting white snow creates a miniature snowstorm.

Red Rock National Park

While it is possible to visit Red Rock National Park year-round, you'll want to make sure you have adequate transportation. Cell service can be spotty in the park, and you'll want to be sure that you're able to navigate the park's one-way loop road on your own. A rental car is your best option. Be sure to rent a high-clearance vehicle, and bring plenty of water and sun protection.

Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities at the Miller Visitor Center, including a movie theater and gift shop. There are also volunteer naturalists on hand to give guided nature walks on geology, plant life, and wildlife.

Seattle

Winter in the US is one of the best times to experience a mountain resort town. Whether you want to ski or snowboard, there is a wide range of fun activities to enjoy. While you're in town, don't forget to check out the local art and culture. Some places are open only in the winter, so plan your trip accordingly.

Snow activities are plentiful in Colorado, from skiing to snowmobiling. Winter hiking in the area is also a popular option. Some of the best trails include Spruce Peak Trail and Robert Frost Wayside Trail.

Washington DC

Known for its festive atmosphere, Washington DC is a great place to visit in winter. The winter temperatures are pleasant and the city has many activities to do, indoors and out. Visitors can also visit the National Mall, which features many of the country's monuments.

In December, the city hosts holiday markets and Christmas bazaars. A free holiday boat parade of lights is also a great way to enjoy the city. Other activities include museum visits and sightseeing tours. You can also go ice skating at Washington Harbour in Georgetown. Admission is $10 USD, but you can enjoy the view for free. Union Station Lights and ZooLights are other free events that you can attend during the holiday season. The City Centre is also decorated beautifully for Christmas.

Burlington

If you are looking for a vacation spot that's not too cold, consider Burlington, Vermont. This small town is the largest city in the state of Vermont, and is situated on a hill overlooking Lake Champlain. There's a charming downtown with lots of shopping and restaurants. It's also home to the University of Vermont, which gives the city a hip, youthful vibe.

Burlington's location makes it convenient for ice skating, cross-country skiing, and other winter activities. The Burlington Parks department operates outdoor ice rinks and grooms cross-country ski trails. There are also breweries and distilleries that craft seasonal concoctions.
