The best way to say goodbye is turning your back and keeping silence between the two of you. It's not easy but it will help you to conceal the wound you created for each other. Turning your back doesn't mean you aren't brave enough to face the fact that you are losing someone. In reverse, it shows that you can stand to protect the one that you love. You protect her not from hurting but from unhealthy effects, words can give her.
In silence, you can still show affection knowing the person you're letting go is fine. To say goodbye and leave is the saddest feeling in the universe. It will be a lot easier to choose smiling and running away than to say goodbye to the person who mean the world to you.
