2 pm, Mumbai.
My father stood there, waving his hands. It's the last time I am seeing him before I leave for Nagpur. He is a tough man. Although I couldn't make his dream come true, he's not at all showing any sign of grief. His dream died the day I chose Pharmacy over Medical. He had a dream and I also had a dream, to capture mine; I had to bury his dream. Such a Selfish Girl I am.
"I am Sorry Baba"
In the back of my mind, I wished he could hear my whisper from 10 feet apart.
As the tears rolled down my face. I waved back to him.
3:45pm, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur.
The pilot on the speaker said that we've reached our destination completed in 1 hour and 20 min and allowed us to open our seat belts.
After taking my luggage from the baggage couter I went outside.
I had informed my old friend to pick me up. She's pursuing her B.Pharm, here in Nagpur College. Well I am also going to join that College. She will be a senior to me because I dropped a year for medical coaching in Mumbai. Alas, I could not crack the Exam after all the hard work, I and Baba had put on it. He was always this supportive. And I am the happiest daughter to have a father like him. But I feel ashamed of the fact that I could not crack the exam of his Dream Job.
It took an hour for us to reach the College. My God! The traffic here is so cruel. It doesn't even let you drive for more than 5 seconds.
I got my hostel room as they alloted me.
A room for 3, spacious with two windows. The other two beds were already occupied. So I took the one left near the windowpane.
I unpacked all my things.
At around 7, my new roommates came. I introduced myself to them
"Shweta"
"Ravina" the girl with short hair introduced herself.
"Vishnupriya" A lean and thin girl from South may be.
Our chit chat lasted till we finally made our bed to sleep.
I was completely exhausted so I needed a good night sleep.
First Day In Department of Pharmacy.
Our classes started with an usual time table. From 9 am to 12pm continuous classes then from 1pm to 3pm, practicals. Today in practicals they introduced us to pharmaceutical products and how to use them.
Day by day I was falling in with pharmacy more and more. It's like I was made for this. I loved to triturate the mixtures in mortar and pestle. Everytime they taught us new formulations I would make it a hundred times, then I would taste it, smell it, apply it on skin to check if it works.
My friends used to call me "Crazy Drug Maker"
Well as the days passed, I started searching for plants with therapeutic effect. And ask my professor if it would work that way.
Four years passed in the blink of an eye. Today I am sitting here with my graduation cap on. I saw Baba, Mumma and my brother sitting in the audience. I know Baba's happiness is in my happiness. I saw him smiling and tears rolling down his senescent face. Tears of joy I bet. I am glad he never gave up on me, crushed his own dreams to build mine. I am proud to have a father like him. I am proud of this moment I'm living.
"It's not the broken dreams that breaks us, It's the ones we didn't dare to dream."
So Dare to Dream, Dream Big and Fight for it.
