The Girl Who Hides Behind That Smile

There is a girl,

who hides behind that smile.

Behind the smile I make, the one I fake,

when you say something that I do not like.

She screams at me when we're alone,

because we should not be spoken to this way.

But she's the wise one, and I'm the one who talks,

and yet at the hour of need, we both lack the courage.

The courage, to stop you then and there,

the courage to speak up our minds out loud.

The courage we sometimes build up together,

but it is then brought down by our fellow mate's doubt.

This girl, she is much more sensitive than I am,

and she does not like to face regrets.

So every time I ignore the pain someone gave me,

she scars herself so that I don't forget.

I don't forget that I am a fool,

a fool who copes up with others' flaws.

Because they taught me to be nice to everyone,

even if they cheat on you, judge you or break your heart.

But then, she is caring too,

she's always there for me on my gloomy days.

she teaches me to speak up for myself,

and stands right behind me even if I fail.

Even if I fail a thousand times,

she will never let go of me.

Because she wants me to be the tough one,

Because she is the softer one already.

So through these years I will learn,

to speak up and defend myself in a fight.

I'll become tough but she'll still be beautiful,

that girl that hides behind my smile.

You will still judge me, you will still hurt me.

But it won't matter after a while.

because I'll start searching for someone, who,

can find that girl behind my smile.

Can love that girl behind that smile.
