Have you ever wondered that we often do things to please others. We often imitate their life because we are scared to accept ourselves. We do not like doing new things because we feel that we will not be accepted by our family or by the society that we live in. We often shift our dimension to the age old practices and suppress our own imagination.
I feel even as an artist we often face the dilemma of writing what we actually feel or what we actually are. We often feel that we will not be accepted by our audiences and therefore we end up writing things that we probably do not like. But, sometimes our bravery to go with new ideas can bring revolutionary changes to this world. If we tread back to history, we will see that any revolution was the result of a new idea born in the mind of a brave soul. A person who took the risk and bravely executed his plan leaving aside the people who mattered and those who were insignificant to him, the society, welcomed a new idea.
It is essential that we understand our inside world and be comfortable in our own skin. This eventually helps us to feel the need to invest time in doing things that will satisfy our inner world. I know this can be depressing sometimes when you do not get the expected outcome, but every new idea comes with a cost. As artists, we need to accept the failures in the same way as we accept our successes. But, as storytellers we need to reflect ourselves in everything that we write. I believe you are most satisfied when you have performed honestly as an artist. The failures are like the darkness which will always exist by your side but you are capable enough to show the light to your inner world and to others by being who you are.
Sometimes, it feels difficult to be different. Sometimes we might not be accepted and sometimes we may not be ready to accept our self. But, as we embark on this journey called life and understand our inner world, we get comfortable in expressing who we are and what we want and how we look at the world. I know it's not going to be easy but sometimes the struggles, the failures and the experiences that we go through defines who we are.
This definition is extremely important to mould us and show us the right direction in life.
P.S - A storyteller who brings his inside world out to the outside world lives on in the minds of others.
This has been my brief understanding about the Guide - "The Second Skin Of A Storyteller" that has been published today by Lakshya Datta.
