The journey

What happens to the soul the moment heart stops functioning? Does the soul immediately fly away and meet God or does it wander around it's loved ones till the time it is called for by the higher powers? Does the soul still remember the bodily ties it had with the ones who are crying over the dead body it's come out of or does it go in search of a new body as soon as it is realised from one body? These and many more were the thoughts I had when I recently attended a loved one's funeral. It was a tough time for everyone to say the last goodbyes and I was definitely one among those who wanted to hold on to the body a little longer. I had seen the person in her hay and happy days and I had seen her suffering from pain in hospital. I could still remember the warmth of her embrace and this made saying goodbye all the more harder. Among all those wet eyes I guess mine was one of the few that had unanswered questions lingering on long after the body was burnt to ashes. I wanted to know so much more about the journey of the soul, it's stopovers , the path and the destination. Some said the journey would be a long painful one till God cleared it's accounts of good and bad, and some said the journey would instantly take a new turn and the soul would find a new body to dwell on. Some said the soul would pay penance for the sins done by the body and some said the suffering of the body was it's ultimate penance and now the soul has been set free. So many views, so many opinions, the one thing I ended up realising was that life is a funny business created by God with so many unanswered questions and varied views and the most important realisation that came along was that death was definitely not the end and there were scarier turns and twists waiting even after the journey of life.
