I saw a group of kids in the playground building castles with clay soil. They were enthusiastic to finish it so that together they can celebrate the glory of their construction. Well of course, no one tried to destroy what they were building, not even from one of them. They had the same agenda, a common goal to achieve. This, at the very least, is a fundamental need to achieve peace. The children were not fighting against each other but once someone would try to deviate from the idea of building a sandcastle and rather make a railroad out of the soil, surely he would be left out of the group. I was more interested with a kid sitting not far from the kids building their own happiness. Then I wondered. Was the kid really alone or he just did not get along well with the other kids? Was he evicted just because he wanted to go slide but was never accompanied by his playmates? Or was he watching over them do the work and later claim success upon the erection of the sandcastle?
They were children. The reason behind him being alone should not be serious like as if he had an infectious disease because more often than not, it should be political in nature. In this case, childishly political. Children play with other children with hopes of having fun. They choose the activities they want and eventually find some playmates. It was the activity that chose them. But in any way these children would not feel happy or excited about the thing they play, they quit or they stop playing regardless of who they play with. Maybe they just do not feel like playing anymore and thus they are connected by the want to.
Upon the near-finish of the castle, a girl who was one of them called out the introverted child to help them gather more soil. The child refused so the girl kept working without paying attention to him. And in all those time they were patting the soil to harden, the castle stood firm, finished and beautiful. They can not get a hold of its grandiose. The child who refused to help came near with awe. He was amazed but the moment he stepped within the bounds of the castle, he was blocked by the other kids. But the girl hastily let the boy in. Maybe she knew that the boy was just insecure of what they had made for he never saw the potential of the soil to become a majestic sight to see. Maybe she knew deep in her heart that the boy, who previously suggested another direction, just wanted to be followed by his playmates. But no, she can never knew for she is just a child. She was just kind, that's all. she was kind with her beliefs, and respectful of others. she was followed by her playmates; whatever she wants, they want. They believed in her because the other kids did so, too.
It is precisely the public opinion generated by the press to make the public incapable of judging, to insinuate unto it the attitude of someone irresponsible, uninformed.
-Walter Benjamin
With different belief comes different ideas and with different idea comes different opinions. I like to think that there is really safety in numbers. To be a part of the majority is to be safe and secured, at least. And that leaves being alone as sometimes dangerous. Being alone will definitely feel the essence of being independent but we are all connected with each other. The want to feel independent comes with the choices we make but our choices, our decisions would not affect ourselves alone. On leadership, then, it would be nice to know that whatever choice the leader makes, will have an impact to its followers. The higher the position, the greater is the responsibility so the leader must always consider the common good for the majority. The leader must be fair. No personal rifts should cloud the manner of decision for the common good. That is basic in treating everyone well.
Leadership is not taken, it is given. People give leadership to those that they trust. They allow people that they trust to have influence over their lives.
-Henry Cloud
A leader can not become one without good character. Character is the best campaign material to make relations, make connections, and to leave a legacy. It is the greatest for a leader to think not in terms of being a leader but simply with the thought of helping people.
