The life of your children in the nursery

adaptation to day to day in nursery schools

Have you got a place in a public child care center? Now you must prepare for the dreaded first day at zaycare. The first separation will be difficult ... Then, once the adaptation period is over, you will have to adapt to the nursery schedules: what? Do you have lunch at 2pm? And the snack at 16? They are not the same hours as at home!

You will soon find that your child will quickly get to the nursery schedules. Life with the rest of the children will be your child's day to day, and he will be fine.

The first days in kindergarten: a new life!

Even with a babysitter, adaptation is necessary and essential, because the child must get used to a new place, new people (a lot!), New sounds, new smells ... and, above all, the absence of his mother !

It is not only an adaptation, but it is also the first separation from his mother.

According to experts, around 8 months is even more complicated, due to the "anguish of the eighth month" or the "fear of the unknown".

During the adaptation, you will have to explain to the staff your child's habits, and you will have to learn those of the nursery.

The separation should be done gradually, in a period of 5 to 10 days on average: the first days we can take the children to daycare for a few hours and gradually increase the time until they get used to it.

If the child understands, we can talk to him and explain that he is going to have a great time and that he will make new friends, always approach the subject in a positive way. We can also allow you to bring your favorite stuffed animal, this will give you security.

When the child returns from kindergarten, it is important to spend a lot of time with him: playing with him, going to the park, reading him a story, etc. If he feels like it, you can talk about what he has done in kindergarten, but never force it.

The day to day of your child in the nursery

In the nursery you have to respect a rhythm. Babies eat and sleep on demand, but as soon as they get a little older, meal and nap times will be common for everyone.

• The mornings

When you bring your child in the morning, we recommend that you tell the staff if he had a bad night or is in a bad mood. Once inside, they will propose different activities (crafts, stories, dancing, etc.). But none should ever be imposed on you!

• Meals

Soon your child will learn to eat alone. When they are babies, you decide everything related to food: milk, number of feedings, etc. The nursery should not give them food that they have not tried before at home. When they are a bit older, your child will eat the same as the rest of his classmates.

• Naps

At first it may be difficult for your child to rest in a nursery, too much noise ... But soon he will get used to the noise. To facilitate the nap you can bring his sleeping bag. For the elderly, this break is very useful to regain energy.

• The toilet

Depending on the age of the child, they will have to change the diaper, others will use the potty, others already use the toilet directly ... It is important that your child returns well groomed, although in nursery schools it is sometimes difficult to dedicate enough time to each child.

• Outputs

At the time of leaving the nursery, you can make a recap of the day. You can ask about the menus, if he has slept ... Do not hesitate to ask anything that worries you, especially, "Did you have a good time?"
