The Linkedin Genie

My friend and I graduated from college together..both of us were interested in catching employment opportunities for ourselves after the college as we wanted to gain the experience..both of us were confident enough that we will for sure bag amazing opportunities and grow together as professionals..but I guess life had other plans.

My friend, Jane she caught Jaundice right before our recruitment drive(which was organized by the college itself)..she fell sick and got admitted in the hospital..so obviously, she could not attend the recruitment drive the college had arranged for the graduates.

While she was sick, I- Claire got really scared and missed the deadline to fill my form for the recruitment drive because of which I wasn't allowed to sit for it as the college rules were pretty strict.

Now here we are, two intelligent good grade girls, unemployed and de motivated..both of us were so sad and we wanted to do something, but we just couldn't figure out what to do..we did came up with some plans though.

1) Job portals- We applied to many job portals, but unfortunately whatever opportunity we were getting, they were of cities far away from where we live. So, we kept on working on this idea, but we looked for a back up plan now.

2) Walk ins- We called many companies for walk ins or on the spot interviews, but almost all of them said that they had already hired students from the recruitment drives held at various colleges. They just said that they would call us if anything opens up.

3) Recommendations- I made some calls to my friends who were already working professionals to push forward our CVs in their companies, which they did, but we did not get any calls after this.

4) Linkedin- One of my friend whom I called for a recommendation, adviced me to create an account on LinkedIn, she told me to buy linkedin followers and told me to visit site (she told me the URL) to know more about it. After that, some job opportunities were visible to us and we got a little hope.

After an extensive month of searching for a job, Jane finally got placed in a company she liked and I have an interview lined up for tomorrow. I hope I clear this one. (I am well prepared and geared up for it)
