The Night You Broke Up With Me

I could only remember the deafening silence that blankets our unspoken words. We just let our eyes met each other. Our hands stood frozen over the cold wooden table between us. I watched your lips moved as if you were trying to say those words. The words that could break my heart into pieces. I know why you called me that night. It was not a romantic meeting that neither you and I did for the past years.

"Can you stop staring at me?" I finally broke the ice by choking that very absurd question.

You just looked down and closed your eyes. I could feel that you were organizing the words that you would say. I am aware that somebody is waiting out there for you and that as we talk you were counting the time that passed by without you by her side. I swallowed the sob forming in my throat as hard as I can. I never wanted to let you see how miserable I can be with us falling apart.

The waiter approached us with a wine bottle in his left hand, "A romantic drink for two?"

You could have said "yes" for the last time that night. I could have been happy at least even though I know the sight of me drinking a glass of wine no longer reminds you the hundred of dinner dates we had. But, you did not give me that chance to feel the respect and affection that you had as the man who made me open my heart.

"I really need to end this...", you said looking at me with those cold eyes.

"I know." I could only say that for certain that you never been with me for the last six months.

It did not surprise you the fact that I know what you wanted. Maybe, you were just waiting for me to end this. But, I was strong to pretend that you still care for me.

You give me back the ring and spoke the words I wish you never did. I could only smile and pretend that I understand your decision despite the fact that I am breaking inside. After saying that, you left the restaurant in a hurry that you did not notice how my tears started to fall as I watch you walking out of the door.

I was right. She was waiting for you outside the place.
