It was a moonlit night. The two boys decided to go out of the house. They were surprised to find the lights of their neighbour's house on. Their neighbour, Mr. and Mrs. Boyle were two sexagenarian, lovable and urbane beings, loved by everyone.
To get a closer look, the two went near the house, when they heard a shrill outcry of a woman and the entrance door was open.
"It must be Mrs. Boyle." Said one of the two boys, Terry.
"Let's go and find out if everything is alright." Said the other boy, Jake.
The bewildered boys went inside the house: an aghast ambience, surrounded by an eerie calmness. The two boys were confused as to go on their own and search or call for an adult's help. But Jake decided that they should check in and if in case anything goes wrong, they would simply scream for help.
They delved the shabby ground floor, where most of the objects were misplaced. They went upstairs, calling the couple's names. No one responded to their calls. This frightened them more as they were already very scared of the gothic milieu. Both of them agreed to spread out and search different rooms. Terry searched a room two doors away from the master bedroom which Jake decided to search.
Oblivious Jake opened the door to discover the dead bodies of the couple, who were brutally murdered! Terrified and scared, Jake quickly ran out to appraise Terry about this. But, he couldn't find him anywhere. Finally, Jake decided to go out and call for help.
As he stepped outside the house, he was completely numb. Terry's inert body laid on the lawn, probably thrown out by someone through the window after stabbing on the chest.
As Jake turned around, a man in a mask, wearing a black leather jacket and a pair of denims with a dagger in his hand, was standing just an inch away from Jake. As the guy was about to kill him, Jake was awakened by the noise of his alarm.
It was just a nightmare- a terrible one! The morning dawned in the same way as it always had. The lined streaks of sunshine falling on the bed opposite to him, where Terry, his elder brother who died in a bike accident, used to sleep, made him cozy and uncomfortable at the same time.
Jake got up and looked outside his window, saw Mr. and Mrs. Boyle having their morning tea in their lawn as they always did; Mr. Boyle tucking his nose under the newspaper and Mrs. Boyle enjoying the soft kisses of sunshine on her face. A genuine smile dawned on Jake's face after having a glimpse of that adorable couple, but his melancholy could not be abrogated, as the memory of his deceased brother still haunts him.
