Tips to Select the Right Door Handles

An essential object for opening and closing interior doors, the door handle plays a functional and decorative role. I will help you find the door handle that will suit your use and the style of your interior.

DOOR HANDLE: THE DIFFERENT MODELS

- Plate crutch door handle: durable, it is also the most common model. The rectangular shape of its plate protects the door from fingerprints.

- Lever handle with rosette: it offers a wide choice of design and is particularly suitable for contemporary style doors. The rosette, generally circular in shape, is less visible than a door handle with a plate.

- Door handle for sliding doors: round or square

- Door handle with pull button: practical and very aesthetic, it comes in different shapes (egg, pear, cylinder, star, stick, etc.). Depending on the model, the handle turns to the side to allow the door to be opened or closed. The button can incorporate a keyless locking system that can be operated from the inside, in order to block access to the room (for example the toilet). In the event of a problem, the lock can always be unlocked from the outside.

CRITERIA FOR CHOOSING A DOOR HANDLE

The choice of your door handle will depend on several conditions including the type of lock installed on your door. He can be :

- With a key to secure or more privacy,

- Without locking (door handles with plate or rosette not drilled)

- Cylinder

- Lock or unlock button ( bathrooms or toilets )

Before choosing your door handle, take note of certain measurements such as:

- The dimension of the fixing square: on a door handle with a lever handle, it is the square rod that passes through the door and holds the two handles together

- Center distance: to choose a suitable door handle, take the center distance into account. The center distance corresponds to the distance between the two fixing holes which allow the cover plate to be fixed. Note that the center distance measurement is unnecessary in the case of a door handle with rosettes

WHICH HANDLE MODEL TO CHOOSE FOR AN INTERIOR OR EXTERIOR DOOR?

For an interior door, the recommended models are door handles with a button (toilets, bathroom) or Kitchen Handles on a plate or non-drilled rosette (living room, kitchen) or with a key (bedroom, office, etc.).

For an exterior door, look for robust and secure handle models. The ideal is to choose a door handle equipped with a cylinder lock. Also, consider its resistance to bad weather.

Kitchen Handles: MATERIALS

More commonly, Kitchen Handles in plastic, Zamak, aluminum, or wood are often found. For more elaborate handle models, the choice of materials and finishes is wider. There are porcelain, brass, glass, or bronze Kitchen handles. For rather modern decor, stainless steel is perfect. Finally, on the finish side, you have the choice between matte, shiny, polished, or brushed.
