Today

Today, after a very long time, I wore the perfume which I use to wear on visiting you.

It doesn’t smell the same. It smells afresh, just like the air I am breathing today.

Today, I heard the songs which I use to listen when we were together,

it doesn’t hurt anymore nor does it bring tears, instead I smile, just like before when I met you.

Today, I crossed the road leading towards your house, but my heart didn’t sink this time.

Today, I went to that ice-cream shop where we went for our first official date.

I ordered my favorite flavor and ate it all by myself and this time I didn’t go down the memory lane.

Today, I decided to write about you, and for the first time, the tears didn’t roll down my cheeks.

Because today, I finally decided to let go, of you and your memories into an open space, as I have no use of them anymore.

And today, I finally set myself free from the shackles of the past which held me down into the dark pit bottom of my heart and gave myself a new start.
