Top 10 Types Of Succulent Plants

Succulents have very similar care needs. But sometimes particular plants will need slightly different amounts of water or sunlight than others. Over 100 succulent plants varieties available in market, but we will discuss top 10!

1- Aloe vera

Medicinal Aloe, Barbados Aloe

This succulent is well-known for its medicinal properties. It is bright green with light spots and has small spikes on the outer edges of the leaves. Considered synonymous with Aloe barbadensis!

2- Corpuscularia lehmannii

Ice Plant

This compact, fast-growing succulent has a deceptive name. Although the green-leaved plant is known as “Ice Plant,” it is not cold hardy. It does well indoors and is great for beginners. The thick blue-green leaves stack opposite each other as they grow up the stem. It has yellow flowers that look similar to daisies that bloom in the Spring.

3- Echeveria ‘Lola’'

‘Lola’ is a favorite succulent for a lot of people! She’s a really pretty light purple color and has a perfectly shaped rosette. Displays beautiful yellow, bell-shaped flowers in the Spring.

4- Echeveria ‘Sahara’

This Echeveria has mint colored ruffled leaves whose edges turn pink in full sun. Watch for coral colored flowers in the summer.

5- Graptoveria ‘Debbie’

‘Debbie’ is an Echeveria hybrid whose rosette shows off a beautiful rose shape. The tips of the blueish-purple leaves turn pink when stressed. It works well in planters outdoors.

6- Pachyveria ‘Powder Puff’

This succulent is an Echeveria and Pachyphytum hybrid. It has silver-blue leaves that have pink tips when grown in full sun. Watch for orangish-pink flowers in mature plants.

7- Pachypodium lamerei

Madagascar Palm

The name of this succulent is confusing, as it’s not a palm at all. The silvery, bulbous stem of “Madagascar Palm” has long, sharp spines. The leaves are long, slender and green. During the winter, it will shed most of its leaves, only to regrow them in the spring.

8- Portulacaria afra

“Elephant Bush,” “Elephant Food,” “Dwarf Jade”

Portulacaria afra “Elephant Bush” is a large, bushing succulent with woody stems that can grow to incredible heights when given the proper time, nutrients, and growing conditions. It can also be used in hanging baskets to add “spiller.”

9- Sedeveria ‘Pink Granite’

This succulent has pink leaves. It grows tall before trailing on the ground or a planter. Watch for white flowers in the fall.

10- Sedum nussbaumerianum

“Coppertone Sedum”

This Sedum is an evergreen perennial. It shows off its beautiful copper color when it’s “stressed” in full sun. It’s perfect for use as a ground cover or in a rock garden.
