Many people have put off their dental appointments due to the current health crisis. But, unlike other things, dental health is not given much attention, and is sometimes even ignored. This can exacerbate the problem, especially if you become ill during the monsoon season.
Below are a few simple tips for maintaining your oral care while suffering from the flu:
1. Maintain a good oral hygiene regimen
Brushing your teeth twice a day is essential. You must keep your teeth and, especially, your tongue clean at all times. This is due to the fact that when you have the flu, a bacterial coating forms on your tongue, which must be cleaned daily with glycerine and a cotton swab. You will undoubtedly feel revitalized, and your oral cavity will be bacteria-free.
2. Gargle and rinse at least 2-3 times per day.
Make your own mouthwash at home. You can make one by boiling water with black pepper, ginger, turmeric, and basil leaves. This will also provide you with an extra dose of vitamin C to boost your oral care immunity while cleaning your mouth. For best results, rinse 3-4 times per day and swirl for at least 30 seconds. You can warm it and use it for gargles to soothe your throat. You can also include aloe vera for additional benefits.
3. Water consumption
Keep yourself as hydrated as possible. When it comes to hydrating yourself and cleaning away extra particles from your teeth, water should be your first choice. Water also improves the quality of saliva, prevents dry mouth, and thus fights bad breath and cavities. So there is only one solution to all oral care & health issues. Fresh sugar-free fruit and vegetable juices, lemon water, ice tea preferably with mint, and other similar beverages can be consumed, but high sugar and aerated drinks should be avoided.
4. Avoid cough and cold syrups that are high in sugar.
When you have a cough and flu, cough syrups are a common prescription. However, because they stick around your mouth and cause an influx of bacteria, these sugar-laden syrups can cause cavities and further damage to the oral cavity. Choose sugar-free varieties whenever possible.
5. Diet
We are what we eat, and it's especially important to eat right when your health isn't at its best. Vitamins and minerals can be obtained through diet and supplements. At the same time, it should be non-sticky and non-starchy. Eating crispy fruits and vegetables, such as apples, which is also known as a natural toothbrush, can keep teeth clean and help remove the extra layer of plaque around teeth, keeping them healthy.
