"Complete breech babies".. Exclaimed the doctor. "And since these are twins and you are becoming weaker, Mrs. Thilak I doubt whether we should proceed with this. I have no assurance that the kids will be born healthy. This is dangerous to you too.." She addedBut Mrs & Mr Thilak were not ready to sacrifice their duo at any cost.. The Doctor looked at them and nodded her head. "I know you wont. We'll have a check up after two weeks and if the condition is worser then...." She paused. The couple left the hospital.
Mr Thilak's face was looking gloomy as he was, after every check up. He knew how worse the condition was, He knew that he could even loose his wife. But they couldnt do that. They'd started loving the kids. Not only the parents their elder sister Devi too kept her hand often on her mother's belly to feel her sibling's kicks. "Amma... I'm not going to let them sleep with me. They'll kick me out of the bed" Devi smiled and said. Her missing teeth added beauty to her smile. "Were you pulling your Grandma's legs??" Asked Amma who knew how mischeivious Devi was. "Me??? never. I was too busy searching names for my littles" Said Devi with voice full of excitement. Amma's face shadowed a despair. Noticing this, Mr. Thilak said to Devi "Show me those names my little princess". Devi jumped to her Papa's lap with 3 sheets of papers. The three had different colored titles too. "This is for 2 little sisters, this for 2 little brothers and this for 1 little sis and 1 little brother". Hearing this her Grandma screamed. "No. Dont even speak like that. If a boy and a girl are born as twins they won't survive and even if they survive, they wont have any luck or charm or they'll be tortured with any dreadful diseases throughout their life." "Why is that so??" Devi had no idea what her grandma was speaking about. "Amma.. We are responsible to receive whatever god gives us. We cant decide which gender the kids should be. If he's giving us kids like that what can we do?? We just can welcome them with both the hands and take care of them" Mrs. Thilak was on her nerves. "Receive anything. But not in my house". Warned Granny..
That night when the couple were lying in the bed. He heard her murmer. "These are gonna be the Dragon and Phoenix twins"
"What??" He asked again as if he didnt hear
"Yes honey, I can feel the dragon and phoenix inside me" She rolled her fingers through the hairs in his chest. "I don't carry them in my tummy expecting any luck or charm, They are our kids. A part of you,me and Devi lies inside both of them. I am not sacrificing them for any black magic or blind beliefs." She made it clear to Mr. Thilak that she was going to disobey her Mother in law for the first time.
