UWELL Caliburn A2 and AK2 Pod Kit Review: Beginner Friendly Introduction Recently, Bien has further

Info

Introduction

Recently, Bien has further expanded its pod kit ecosystem with two new products: Caliburn A2 Pod Kit and Caliburn GK2 Pod Kit . The two pods look quite different at first glance, one with a conventional ballpoint pen design and the other shaped like a lighter. However, they have many similarities in reality. Take the specs as an example, both of them feature 15W fixed power output, 520mAh built-in battery, and 2ml pod cartridge.

The Uwell Caliburn A2 and AK2 pods sound appealing but have quite a few similarities, so which one wins the game? Or what is your perfect match? You will find all the answers in our review. Based on our weeks of testing on the Uwell Caliburn A2 and AK2 pods, we have summarized their pros and cons in a contrasting way as shown below, to give you more direct information.

In this review, we're highlighting things we like about green , and those we don't like about red .

performance

 similarities

Both Uwell Caliburn A2 and AK2 pods are installed with an irreplaceable Mesh-H 0.9Ω coil. In general, the coil meets our standards. First of all, it produces dense, moist vapor , a perfect indication of what a great cotton roll should look like. Also, the coil fits well with almost any liquid . The vapor-carried flavor was rich and sweet , with no burnt taste or loss of flavor even after 3 rd refills . Lastly, the coil resistance is specially designed for MTL Vaping , which is definitely a big plus for MTL lovers.

But the coil does come with slight spit from time to time. When we inhaled both the Uwell Caliburn A2 and AK2, a few drops of e-liquid constantly splashed on the tongue, sometimes very hot. We believe that the coil still has room for improvement. Also, the coils are not replaceable . If the coils burn out, we have to throw away the entire cartridge to replace it, which is inconvenient in my personal opinion. Here are the reasons: first, we are deprived of the freedom to use coils of different resistance; second, the cost of replacing an entire cartridge must be higher than replacing a single coil.

 Differences:

In terms of liquid leakage, the Uwell Caliburn A2 and AK2 pods show some differences. Based on our 10-day test, we have to give the AK2 pod credit for its anti-leak technology —no leaks at all. However, we did find fluid constantly leaking from the A2 tank after our 2nd fill . Maybe it's because we uncovered the drip tip. Anyway, the Caliburn A2 leak is a bit problematic.

function - 8

 similarities

Let's start with the advantages. The Uwell Caliburn A2 and v thru pro pod kits show quick responses to firing instructions . Even when we drag the two devices very slightly, the trigger can still be activated. By the way, to turn on the two devices, press the fire buttons 5 times in 2 seconds. Also, although its output power is fixed at 15W, it is enough to produce large clouds of vapor .

But the Caliburn A2 and AK2 pods provide very few features to satisfy various vaping needs . None of them have those regular features commonly seen on recent vape products like temperature control, on-screen display, and memory mode. They don't offer many options in airflow adjustment either.

 Differences:

Talking about the function, the main difference between Uwell Caliburn A2 and AK2 lies in the fire button. The Caliburn AK2 pod does not have a fire button and therefore only supports drag activation. And that's why we don't have to worry about any accidental firing .

Uwell Caliburn A2 has a fire button, so we can switch between dragging and button activation . But since the key lock function is not available on A2, please remember to turn it off to avoid possible accidental firing if you are not going to use it temporarily.

Overall quality and design: 9

Appearance

 similarities

The main bodies of the Uwell Caliburn AK2 and A2 are both made of aluminum alloy with a rich gloss , just like the Caliburn G above. In the upper part of their bodies there is a special window to check the liquid level . We love its creative and vivid design . they also feel nice in the hand with comfortable grips .

 Differences:

Caliburn A2 pod offers six colors to choose from i.e. blue, green, black, grey, iris purple and orange and is designed like the traditional long and thin vape pens. Caliburn AK2 distinguishes itself with a lighter-shaped façade . In addition, it is also complete with a lanyard to wear around the neck, so it would be easier to take it anywhere.

Sheath

 similarities

Compared with the previous Caliburn-G, the Uwell Caliburn A2 and AK2 pods show a great advancement in mouthpiece design. The newly improved mouthpieces have been reduced to better fit our mouth.

Although the Caliburn A2 and argus p1 pride themselves on their top padding, the design doesn't really make things as smooth as you might hope. First, it is not easy to unclog the drip tip . And the liquids always spilled out somehow when we filled the pod.

 Differences:

Yes, we're impressed that the Caliburn AK2 didn't spill any liquid during our tests. However, perhaps in pursuit of such absolute leak protection, UWELL sets a cap too tight for the AK2's fill port . I have to say, I've been in a lot of trouble just to pop the lid off, like I've broken my fingernails. Or for another example, the device has been dropped on the ground many times just because we are forced to remove the cover quite forcefully. But surprisingly, we found the Caliburn AK2 to be robust . There was no scratch on it even if it fell from 1.5 meters high.

Battery

 similarities

The Uwell Caliburn A2 and AK2 are equipped with a 520mAh internal battery, which is suitable for all-day vaping, and a Type-C charging port. Their fast charging is incredible — we have both devices fully charged in less than an hour. . But the two pod kits don't provide the Type C cable . If you have an interest in them, please prepare one in advance.

 Differences:

The Uwell Caliburn A2 pod kit has a light indicator to signal the battery level , so don't worry about sudden power off.

Ease of use - 9

Operation

 similarities

As we mentioned above, the Caliburn A2 and AK2 keep their features to a minimum. Accordingly, its operations are just as easy as pie , perfectly Fits any vaping beginners or people who are just looking for cigarette substitutes. . A2 and AK2 have no display and no multi-mode selection. We did not find any difficulty in following the user manuals to operate the two devices .

 Differences:

Compared to AK2, the Uwell Caliburn A2 pod can be a bit trickier as it has an additional fire button (can be dragged or triggered by a button). But you know that judgment is relative. After all, how could a fire button be considered a complicated operation?

Price - 8

UWELL Caliburn A2 Price:

$29.99 at elementvape.com (US) with an original price of $34.99

UWELL Caliburn AK2 Price:

$49.99 at elementvape.com (US) with an original price of $42.99

Uwell Caliburn Capsule Price:

$13.99 at elementvape.com (US) with an original price of $15.99

To give you a clearer idea, we put the price of the latest generation of Caliburn below:

Caliburn G's MSRP is $39.99 and is now selling for $23.99 at elementvape.com.

Considering that the Uwell Caliburn A2 and AK2 have so many similarities, and AK2 doesn't feature any technology or design that makes it outperform A2, A2 is absolutely more worth buying . Although in contrast to the Caliburn G, the latest Caliburn A2 is only slightly more expensive.

But as we said before, the coils of Caliburn A2 and AK2 are not replaceable. Replacing a cartridge inevitably costs more than a coil . If you are looking for a vaping product for long-term use, you should consider this factor.

General thoughts

There is no doubt that the Uwell Caliburn A2 and AK2 are designed for vaping beginners. Its limited features do not allow for various personalized vaping experiences. The output wattage is fixed and flexible airflow control is not available. But it is for the same reason that the two pod kits are quite suitable for people who are about to embark on their first vaping journey with a simple device. Caliburn A2 and AK2 do not require sweaty operations. We don't even have to think about replacing the coils; If there is a problem with the coil, just scrap the entire module and install a new one. When it comes to the price, the Caliburn A2's price is more reasonable, almost $10 cheaper than the AK2.
