What are the other highlights of Mitsubishi's new ASX?

The GAC Mitsubishi ASX may not have appeared on the consumer car list for a long time. It is more due to the fact that it has not been updated for many years and its presence has decreased. Of course, I do not deny the advantages of this car. You must know that at the beginning of its launch, it had a good market share with the endorsement of the Mitsubishi brand. But nowadays, consumers have higher requirements for appearance, and appearance determines success or failure to some extent.

The exterior and interior design techniques are bold, and compared with the old model, the style is a 180° change, which brings the car's popularity back to normal levels. Before participating in the test drive event, I also deliberately checked the sales data for the past three months. The monthly average sales of about 1,000 units also reflected the "old" side of this car.

As a mid-term facelift, Mitsubishi's new ASX has not made much change in powertrain. The engine is still 1.6L and 2.0L two naturally aspirated engines. This test drive we experienced is the 2.0L version, which is also the most popular model in the future. This 2.0L engine is code-named 4J11 and is currently one of Mitsubishi's most advanced engine models.

Compared with the old 2.0L engine code-named 4B11, the 4J11 is a domestic model with a slight increase in engine torque parameters. Because it is equipped with Mitsubishi's latest MIVEC technology, it adopts a single camshaft design to further reduce fuel consumption performance without changing the displacement. At the same time, this engine meets China's National VI emission standards.

The engine is matched with the CVT stepless gearbox produced by Jatco, one of Japan's three major gearbox manufacturers, which can simulate 6 gears. This powertrain has been widely used in many products of Mitsubishi Motors.

In terms of chassis, Mitsubishi's new ASX adopts a front Macpherson-style independent suspension and a rear multi-link independent suspension. This suspension structure is rarely used in 100,000-yuan joint venture brand SUVs. On the one hand, it shows Mitsubishi Motors is more kind at the cost, and more importantly, it has inherited the advantages of Mitsubishi Motors in terms of chassis sports. The rear suspension adopts a combination of cartridges, which not only has a compact structure, but also improves the shock absorption capacity of the shock absorber.

When I first used it for the first time, the adjustment method of the Xinjinxuan ASX accelerator pedal suddenly broke the traditional Japanese car's dexterity and lightness in my mind. All of them have a large accelerator pedal damping, a softer adjustment style, and no acceleration or slowness. When starting at traffic lights, you often need to step on the accelerator to make the car quickly reach your inner speed. This calibration is also beneficial, even a novice driver can drive more calmly. After the speed is increased, the mid-stage acceleration capability of this car of 40-60km/h is still good in the same level.

Smooth and easy driving is the main theme of this car. The gearbox’s shifting action is soft, and the shifting speed is usually stable at about 2000rpm. A step on the floor oil on the engine’s power output will have a reaction time of about one second. Obviously all of this It is a structure specially calibrated for smooth driving.

If the gearbox is switched to S mode, the engine speed will immediately rise to about 3000rpm, and the engine's response to the accelerator pedal will become much more sensitive, and the acceleration will be smoother. Of course, it is difficult for you to get a feeling of pushing back during this process. After all, the main goal of a naturally aspirated engine with a CVT gearbox is smooth driving performance. If you encounter uphill mountain roads, or need to continuously overtake, I still recommend switching to the S gear to drive.
