Battery technology is one of the most researched fields in the tech world and there has been continuous progress in it. From heavier lead acid batteries, it has come to the Gallium Nitride batteries which are far more small, compact, and power efficient. But it doesn’t stop with it. Zinc-Manganese Oxide Batteries
Energy density is a major factor that decides the efficiency of any battery. By keeping this basic principle in mind, a group of researchers has found a conversion reaction in the zinc-manganese oxide battery. But the reaction is not yet controlled to use for increasing the energy density in conventional batteries. If they succeed, they can use it along with the on-grid system to support the energy needs of the nation.
Carbon-Based Batteries
In order to find a solution for the disadvantages of the currently used lithium-ion batteries, research is being conducted on organosilicon electrolyte batteries. It is a carbonate-based liquid solvent that can be altered at the molecular level to use in industries or consumer electronics. It is considered safer than lithium-based batteries.
Gold Nanowire Gel Electrolyte Batteries
An electrolyte is an important source for the battery to function. Since liquid electrolytes have the risk of combusting at unstable conditions, a more stable alternate is being researched. So, instead of using a liquid electrolyte, scientists are experimenting with gels and manganese dioxide-coated gold nanowires. The wires are found to hold the charge for higher duty cycles when compared to conventional batteries.
TankTwo Batteries
TankTwo has developed a new tech called the String Cell battery which contains several small cells that aid in the quick recharge of the battery. This is proposed to solve the issue of slow recharging of batteries in electric vehicles. It is also expected to reduce the charging time from hours to a few minutes. A service station with new cells will swap the drained cells for recharged cells which is actually more efficient.

The battery technology has to improve in many areas to facilitate higher efficiency and enable more advancements in the transport and communication industry. The more efficient it becomes, the lesser will be the dependence on fossil fuels which are harmful to the environment and has the potential to deplete.
