What I Learned From A Saree

Info

As I went to shopping today

For my Farewell saree

I found this huge sword hanging over my head

With nothing but a little thread

I realised I wanted to look so good

That amidst of all that, I complety forgot who I was

From the nerdy geek, who sings well

To someone who feels the need to seek validation of the fashion police

From an anti-social person

To someone who wants to be complimented by everyone.

From someone who gets so indulged in her life,

That she forgets about even combing her hair

Someone who doesn't even wash her face before an exam

Cause her face is reserved for her books

To this wannabe beauty queen, who wants to dress up

Not because it makes her feel good,

But just so nobody thinks she is a fashion-less anti-social nerd.

That is not who I am.

I am fashion-less because,

I don't find beauty in clothes.

I find beauty in words, so I write

I find beauty in melody, so I sing

I find beauty in people, so I love.

I am not anti-social

But, in between these epitomes of gossip

I wanna be with someone who sees through chaos and drama.

I am not a nerd.

I just know how important books are if you wanna keep your soul from getting rotten.

We always say that we should never be afraid of being who

But we only apply this, on the bigger things in life.

Why don't we say, "Wear the most goddy Saree that you can if that's what you love.

Laugh the most whale-like laugh, if that's how you laugh

Sing like a frog to soothe your mind if you have to.

Love as much as you can, if you want to."

Why are we always talking about the big inhibitions.

The big barriers, the big problems.

When it is these little day-to-day issues that quitely erode us

You're asked to appreciate the insides of people

Take time to do that for yourself too.

If you look ugly, then in that moment, everything you have

Everything you are

Is exactly how you should be loving yourself.

So because I had an exam the other day

I saw 4 Sarees, picked out the one that looked the best

And even though it's a little bit goddy, its my Saree.

Because a fashion-less anti-social nerd,

Is exactly who I am.

And I'm gonna be the best one you'll ever see.

You watch.

~The girl who is not afraid to look ugly anymore.
