It doesn’t matter whether you have a blog that talks about nutrisystem and medifast (like I do!) or whether you have a blog that talks about technology and blogging or whether you have a blog that gives people the best coupons for the top products online you need traffic to succeed online.
Writing great content works, being very good at positioning yourself is good and learning to tell people the importance of your content and products to them is great, but all these are useless without the right type and amount of traffic. In this article I will be sharing with you some of the top traffic generation lessons I have learned from my coupon blog.

Put Content First
Guest blogging rocks, blog commenting works great and all those traffic generation techniques you have read on other blogs are effective. The problem with getting traffic is that the journey does not end with driving the traffic to your blog; you also need to learn to make that traffic stick. Creating great content on your blog regularly is a great way to ensure the visitors to your blog stick and also a great way to get a lot of people to spread the word about your blog and as a result lead to more traffic.
The saying that content is king will always matter so it doesn’t matter if what you produce regularly is videos, podcasts or text content, make sure you deliver great content on a regular basis.
Marketing is a Must
The next lesson I learned from my medifast and nutrisystem blog about traffic is that marketing is a very integral part to getting a lot of traffic. You have to plan every area of your blog including your marketing. You shouldn’t just write great content and expect the traffic to come. You have to spread the word. Make sure you write guest posts on other blogs, try to be an expert on the top forums in your niche, utilize social media sites and do as much as you can to spread the word about your blog. Your content isn’t as effective as it should be if you don’t market it so don’t just sit down there and expect results to income. Start spending more time promoting your blog – put the word out there for your blog and let people know about you. The better you are at marketing, the more traffic you will get over time.
Your Subscribers are Your Blog’s Lifeline
The final and most important lesson that took me some time to learn is that your subscribers are your most important asset as a blogger. Getting 1000 visitors to your blog daily is cool but the reality is that over time if you don’t produce the kind of great content you are producing or if you are not updating your blog regularly again that traffic will drop.
That isn’t the case with subscribers. Your subscribers will always see your messages as it will be delivered directly to them. If you focus on building a strong subscriber base, even if you don’t update your content for a whole month your subscribers will be notified whenever you publish new content.
