Why Is Poetry So Much About Heartbreak?

  • We all go on and on about how we loved someone so much,
  • And yet, they left. And how it hurt so much.
  • How we thought we met our soulmates
  • But, "It wasn't the right time for us."
  • Why do we get so lost in the love that we couldn't get
  • That we stop acknowledging the love that we do.
  • Why do we set ourselves on fire to give out warmth
  • To something which will forever remain cold.
  • Why don't we take a minute to appreciate everything else?

  • Why don't we write poems on nature?
  • No love compares to the one that Nature has.
  • It just gives and gives without any demands.
  • Knows no judgement or even how to complaint.
  • Looks and nourishes alike to the wise and to the sinners.
  • It exploits itself to keep us safe and sound.
  • Doesn't stop loving us even when all we do is demand.
  • And even then all we do, is demolish and reprimand.
  • We have the truest form of love all around us.
  • And yet all we seem to run after is what wasn't meant for us.

  • Why don't we write poems about water?
  • How it changes its entire being to our likings.
  • How it adjusts to every environment we put it in for our convenience.
  • How easily it vanishes into thin air when we don't want it.
  • And how it freezes itself to relieve our pain.
  • How it falls from such great heights to see smile on our face.
  • How it is majority of what we actually are.
  • And somehow it is still not more important,
  • Than the guy who never really understood you.
  • And more significantly, it doesn't even want to be.

  • Why don't we write poems on our shoes?
  • How they lose a part of themselves just so we could go on.
  • How they face the hard and hot so our feet would remain at comfort.
  • How they protect us from all the sharp stones on our ways.
  • How regardless of the circumstance, they are always there by our side
  • How they never ask any question and just blindly support.
  • When they get worn and torn of catering to our needs,
  • We throw them away. But they don't complain.
  • Because all they care about, is us being warm and safe.
  • And somehow they don't deserve appreciation,
  • But someone who hasn't seen every dark phase with you does.

  • Love, is not about having.
  • Love is about being.
  • We don't need love from a particular place.
  • We already have it from everywhere else.
  • The kind of love we don't appreciate.
  • Is the kind of love we really need.
  • If you can't love the Universe for the way it loves you.
  • Then don't bother loving at all.

~You don't need someone to say "I love you" to know that you are being loved.
