The withdrawal syndrome is one of the most complicated problems when dealing with an addiction. It occurs when the substance or habit that causes the addictive process is abandoned. The person becomes very accustomed to the addiction, reaching severe levels of nervousness. Also, anxiety and other discomforts are triggered, which force the addiction to resume.
In the case of alcohol withdrawal syndrome, the simple fact of having an alcohol hangover, and that only by drinking again there is an improvement, is an indication of this syndrome. Something similar happens with many substances such as tobacco, marijuana, crack, amphetamines, heroin, and a few others. The addict feels so bad when he stops using that he is forced to resume it.
Symptoms
The symptoms are varied and often depend on the type of addiction. For example, withdrawal discomforts from alcohol are not the same as those from marijuana. However, there are many things in common among those who suffer from this problem:
• A great dose of irritability and nervousness
• A prevailing desire to resume the substance or habit of addiction
• Constant irritability as everything causes annoyances or explosions of a bad mood
• Uncontrollable shaking in the hands or jaws
• Difficulty in sleeping along with insomnia and restlessness
• Sudden ups and downs in mood within seconds
• Fever and chills
• Difficulty in thinking clearly
• Restless dreams and nightmares
• Sweating and tearing without any apparent cause
• Tiredness at all times in spite of taking a rest
The withdrawal syndrome is quite strong, and these symptoms grow by returning to the vice that causes the addiction. We can see that the spiral of this syndrome is very harmful.
Treatment
The treatment depends on a number of factors. The first thing to consider is the type of addiction. Also, a psychological evaluation of the addict is conducted. Some implementable solutions are as follows:
• At times, it is compulsory to admit for a men's recovery program the addict to a rehab facility.
• When the addict is admitted, he is removed from the environment where he can relapse into the addiction.
• Certain drugs cannot be removed all at once. For this reason, treatment is established where consumption is gradually reduced.
• Alternative activity therapy is common. In this way, the patient is distracted and stops thinking about resuming the use of addictive substances.
• The patient needs to be monitored; in this way, it is identified if he tends to relapse.
• Psychological care is provided so that the person has the will to move on.
It is necessary to prepare the patient to return to his normal life, family, work, school, and other activities. If this step is not fulfilled, the patient will have rehabilitation problems and will fall back into addiction.
Indeed, it is not easy to work with a withdrawal syndrome. Knowledge of the subject is required. In turn, the success of the treatment depends on a correct initial evaluation of the patient. Likewise, you need to understand that it is a treatment of medium or long duration.
The withdrawal syndrome will not prevent you from stopping that addiction that consumes your life until you opt for complete patient monitoring from a professional rehab center.
