Every woman should have at least one or two good pairs of leggings in their closet. They are not only a comfortable and fun alternative for trousers, but they are very versatile as well.
One great place to wear leggings is to the gym or to your next workout session. Leggings as activewear have risen in popularity over the past decades and you're going to see many famous women athletes sporting leggings as the flexible materials allow them to achieve a wide range of movements.
If you want to copy their style, you can wear leggings as gym clothes. These are the common types of legging types that you should consider the next time you shop for activewear.
1. High-waisted gym leggings
High-waisted gym leggings are classified as such because of a specific design feature – a high waistline that comes up to the belly-button area.
One reason why this type of leggings is popular for women’s gym wear is because of the support it provides to the upper body area. The high waist gives it a tummy-tuck effect which many find flattering.
2. Ankle-length leggings
Like high-waisted gym leggings, these leggings are classified as they are by a design feature. In this case. These leggings are designed so that the legs do down to your ankles. Most ankle-length leggings are worn tucked into socks.
The maximum coverage offered by ankle-length leggings makes them a good option if you like to work out outdoors during the colder month, like running or walking in the park during the winter months.
3. Knee-length leggings
These types of leggings are designed to cover your legs only up to just below your knees. They are great workout tights for activities that require flexibility in your movement’s such as yoga or dance.
Since they are shorter than other types of legging they allow you to move easier and move with you when you go through your poses or steps.
4. Seamless gym leggings
Some women athletes prefer seamless gym leggings as they believe that these are the most comfortable types of leggings for sportswear.
A seamless legging is made by knitting the material so the finished product is all in one piece. Seams in leggings can rub against your skin during physical activities and cause chaffing, so some women athletes prefer to go seamlessly.
5. Mid-calf leggings
Mid-calf leggings stop just below your knees but above your ankles. These are the most common length for leggings, and you could find high-waisted or seamless gym leggings that drop to mid-calf lengths.
These are considered a nice length for activewear as it provides you with coverage and protection around your knees and calves but still allow for easy movement.
The style of leggings for activewear isn't as important as the fit, however. You want a pair that moves with you as you go through your workout routine.
Test the fit of your leggings by performing a few squats in front of a mirror. Make sure that the leggings provide your proper coverage and that they don’t bunch up uncomfortably.
