Years From Now

Info

A notification popped up on her Facebook icon, the smart phone beeped. She saw it is a 5 year old memory. And it was tagged to him too...

2 years of separation, unfriended now and yet fb does this to her. She has moved on, onto a new place, new life, new friends and yet she could not overcome the urge this time.

The urge to look into his life now, after years. She had ignored and deleted all that was related to him but today she felt different. She had remembered his birthday every year since and yet did not call to wish him, but today she felt differently. She just wanted to take a look at him, to strengthen her decision to stay away from him forever.

Swiping through his profile she had a subtle smile on her lips, her mind was somewhere else. She was somewhere in a time years from now, meeting him face to face.

In her head she strikes a conversation with herself...

" Years from now, I will see you again, face to face. You smiling at your achievements after our separation, yes I will be happy for you. But I will be happy for myself too...

Even if I stand opposite you without a partner by my side, I will be happy. Happy to gain an independence which staying with you, I would have lost. Happy to foresee things and act upon it. Happy to let you go along the way. Happy to see you achieve all that, which I could not stand, if you were a part of my life. And most importantly happy to overcome all the grief I once felt, breaking up.

Years from now, you might still have the eyes that I once found my happiness in, but I will be having the wisdom of not falling for that again, not for yours or anyone else s.

Years from now, we will be acquaintances and not friends like we used to be, but I will be okay with that because I had learnt along the way, the world cannot revolve around you...

Years from now, you will be the first one to approach, we will exchange hellos, smile at each other and part our ways. All that but with a calm heart, a confident mind and a satisfied ego."

And with this in her mind she locked her phone screen and turned back to her computer screen, but now with a big smile on her confident face.

With love,

Sanjukta.
