Bhaichung Bhutia, also known as the"Sikkimese Sniper", is a former Indian domestic footballer and is thought of as the epitome of the growth of Indian football.

He was born on 15 December 1976 in Tinkitam, Sikkim and played as a striker all of his careers. Bhutia is famous for his strong shots along with his pinpoint accuracy in front of the goal. His hunger for his enthusiasm for the game made him the father-figure of Indian soccer. Bhaichung has also captained the side and now plays the role of supervisor at the Sikkim state football club.

Background

Bhaichung was not only good at football, but also represented his college at basketball, badminton and athletics. His uncle Karma Bhutia managed Gangtok-based Boys Club in which Bhaichung played in his early years.

Bhaichung played several other local school clubs and teams and brought attention to himself in the 1992 Subroto Cup where he obtained the"Best Player" award. His talent was spotted by former Indian goalkeeper Bhaskar Ganguly and helped Bhutia proceed to West Bengal in which he'd play the majority of his livelihood. Debut

Bhaichung Bhutia made his club professional introduction in 1993 to get Calcutta-based East Bengal where he'd create nine appearances, scoring 4 goals in the league. His debut for the club would mark the start of a career that mostly spanned from Mohun Bagan and back to East Bengal.

He was only 19 years of age. At precisely the exact same championship, Bhutia scored a goal against Uzbekistan to become the most popular Indian goalscorer at 19 years of age.
