The Days Passed

Info

When the mirror shattered into a thousand pieces, she knew how it felt. Pain was not the feeling, numbness was...

Instinctively she started to pick up the pieces, when she went to throw it her hand got pricked and blood oozed out. She didn't even blink at it, went straight to her bedroom and closed her door.

She sat on the floor gazing at her hand as a red drop trickled down the irregular lines. A drop of water peeped out of the corner of her eyes as her mind raced into memories of their happy past.

They met at the prom, he was a the brother of her classmate, they danced all night together... days passed...each day they found new excuses to meet each other and then finally on his knees he went and proposed...she jumped with joy in response... days passed again...each day bringing them closer... then she had to leave for internship... he promised distance won't come in between...days passed...but things changed...calls were not the same...and then she found out the truth... he has found a new one... days passed...fighting, begging, apologizing...and it was time to return ...

She had returned to the city, but not in the same way as she had left. She was shattered, she wished to run away every day from all things that reminded her of him.

The knock on her door brought her back, few blood drops were on the white floor, she quickly wiped her tear and the floor and answered the door.

A tall figure was standing in front of her, a well sculpted face was smiling at her, with a wave of his hand he started," Hello! I am your new neighbor Raunak. And you are?"

"Oh! Hi... am Rai...nice to meet you...but I am bit busy now..." she was not at all pleased.

"Oh sorry.. I just thought..." and midway into the sentence she closed her door on his face.

Days passed...she kept running into him, without eye contact she would excuse herself by him...on one of these days he grabbed her hand and pulled her back...

"What is your problem Rai? Why are you always so stern? Always running away! Have I done something?" he inquired.

" Just leave me!! Let me go or I will shout!" she finally looked into his eyes.

"No! Answer me...please!"

"You remind me of him!" she blurted out, a tear trickled down her cheek.

"Oh! Am sorry...I thought it was my behavior.." he had let her hand go, and she ran into her house.

In her room she cried again that night after many days...not because of her ex but for Raunak. His move had shattered her numbness. His touch made her shiver. He managed to look past the wall she had created to stay away from people.

The next days, she found a sorry note from Raunak stuck on her door. She took it and went to his house. He opened his door and looked shocked.

" Its Okay. Thank you for waking me up from my monotonous life..." she smiled looking into his grey eyes. And their friendship kick started.

Days passed into years. Their friendship bloomed...they found their happiness in each other... and finally tied the knot...

And then...one fine day..

Again when the mirror shattered into a thousand pieces, she knew how it felt. Pain was not the feeling, happiness was...as he helped her picking up the pieces one by one...
