And just like that I spoke to him all day long,
With my big hand gestures trying my best to get my point through.
I told him of everything I had ever been,
And he told me of the many things that he had seen.
Of all the beautiful secrets he had heard being whispered in his shadow.
By worried lovers, ignorant of his existence,
By excited children that circled him till he was almost giddy,
Once, of the little girl whom he hid so efficient that she won hide and seek.
He told me of the poets that sat with their tired backs leaning against him racking their brains to rhyme,
he told me of all the words he'd collected and whispered into their eager ears.
He told me of the baumy summer afternoons of the different lovely women he'd fallen in and out of love with,
of the squirrel that tickle that he almost sneezed, I couldn't stop laughing.
He'd lived for more years than he could remember,he boasted, and sighed of the times he almost died.
He wanted to know all about being seen and being loved and I wanted to know all about him.
The young leaves giggled at my hand gestures whom he would scoff and scold like an old annoyed man taming his rowdy grandchildren.
I had to use my hands a lot of times to explain to him of things that I assumed he didn't understand,he didn't stop me even if he did.
We didn't know each other's tongue I thought.
He somehow didn't need loud hand movement to express like I did,he didn't even need words.
How beautiful I thought to myself. As I sunk deeper in to his shade as he filtered the strong sun just enough to keep me warm.
While his bark glowed amber.
I thought appearances don't matter, untill I saw his bark embrace the canary yellow sun.
I stopped talking and stared, in awe of his existence.
Unfathomable beauty, I thought and let my thoughts run free, ignorant of the curious onlookers.
I am falling for a big old tree I thought to myself and giggled with nervous glee.
My existence felt insignificant compared to the ginormous glorious life he'd lived.
The canary yellow turned deep purple and he told me it was time to leave.
Go back home little girl, he said.
5 more minutes.
Hugged him tight and bid him adieu without a promise of tomorrow.
