A Night to Remember

I was standing there, right in front of a mirror seeing my own reflection with my elegantly made dress at the back. I was about to get my makeup done, but I wanted to check on myself first before anything else. I took a few inhales and exhales to ease the nervousness I was feeling that day.

"Prom" what really is the essense of this event? Is it all about the dancing? The flashing lights? The food? Will I even have a great time there? I have no idea whatsoever, but my mom told me that it is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be able to attend at such a prestigious and formal event. That explains why she wanted me to go so badly.

I got my makeup done, it felt like having layers after layers of products on my face. I had my eyebrows plucked which hurted so bad to be honest, and I hope that this event is worth the pain I'm suffering right now. I had flushed looking cheeks and a ruby red lip to match my ball gown. My hair was put up in a bun-like hairstyle, matched with a clip made of gems and crystals. I requested for a not so high pair of silver heels for I wasn't really used to wearing pumps.

A few hours later, I was all glammed up and ready to go. My family starred at me as if I was some kind of precious gem. My mom took pictures, while my grandma looked at me straight with teary eyes. My dad hugged me tight as he stated, "my little lady isn't so little anymore I guess." I was already running late for the event so we rushed to the car as my parent's accompanied me there.

I arrived a little late, and was busy looking for my friends until I saw my partner at the corner. My heart started thumping really fast, my hands were  shaking, but then he came up to me and pulled out my hand as we walked inside the hall. Little did I know that he'd been waiting for me there the entire night.

We had matching outfits, which was totally unexpected. He looked great with his suit and tie just like everyone else in the event. I was feeling like a real life princess, as if I was the main character in a story book.

I sat with my partner along with my friends, ate a lot of food and danced to the beat of the music. Colorful lights surrounded the room, and people couldn't stop laughing and cheering of total happiness.

We didn't realize that it's almost midnight and we are about to go home. We were instructed to have our last dance that night. I felt sad because it was all coming to an end. I was like Cinderella, who's required to go home at 12 am and turn back into my usual set up. Without the dress and the jewelry, without the makeup on my face.

The smile on my face turned into a frown, but my partner held his hand and asked to dance with me one last time. We walked towards the dance floor along with my friends and hugged when the clock strikes at 12.

Prom isn't just all about the fancy dresses and astounding bling. It's not just about the dancing under flickering lights with your date. It's not just for the classy, and the famous people in school. Prom is all about reminiscing the experiences with your peers, classmates and friends in high school.

One day we will look back at this event and realize that atleast for one night, we felt special. That prom is a night to remember.
