Aliens

The following story is in another language from another species from another galaxy, but has been translated to English (and other Earth-based terms and units) for your human eyes and brain to comprehend and perhaps possibly enjoy - maybe even self-reflect a little.

The self-reflection is optional.

To my family and my fellow Gallifreyans,

This is my last message before I land on this green and blue planet. As I write this, I've entered the planet's orbit and am hovering above one of its cities.

As some of you are aware, this is the first planet with alien life that we have discovered in a millennia of search. I remember because I was there. As a founding member of the 'Gallifrey Space Program', I always believed that the time and investment would pay off.

Perhaps it is fate that it was our very last beacon ship that brought us this good news. Considering that the wormhole that led us to this galaxy could have closed at any moment, I couldn't wait for the beacon ship to return so that I could analyze the situation and the data gathered before I began my solo-journey. It's been almost two years now in Gallifrey time since I left, which means the GSP team has had more than a year to understand this planet. I've waited for a response from you this whole time, but perhaps it was the jump through the wormhole that has caused some delay in receiving any transmissions. I'll be landing on this planet as soon as I finish this transmission, so I'll take the no "panic" messages as a good sign that it is safe for me to approach the alien life that resides on this planet.

Hope. Hope is what led us here, what led me here. An unknown galaxy. An unknown planet. An unknown alien race. Many in the Gallifrey High Council were against my conquest to find alien life outside of our galaxy and time, but their skepticism had only one solution: a leap of faith. I took this 'risk' because someone had to, and no matter what happens to me once I make contact, I will stand by my decision. This is the right thing to do. This feels like the right thing.

Trust. We must begin this new relationship with this new planet not because we can trust them, but because we should. Their planet is young. Their knowledge and understanding of the universe and how it works is limited. We can teach them. Even though our planet is much more technologically advanced that their planet, we can learn from each other. A thirst of knowledge is the what drove our planet's success so far. We must share what we've learned and created. What they might like in knowledge, they might make up for in intellect and promise.

I will admit that I do not know how this planet will react to our existence and this first contact. Do they know that they are not alone in this universe? Do they stand united as one race? Do they want to be our friend?

All questions have answers. We just have to possess the courage to ask, and the resilience to accept the answer when it presents itself.

If the beings that control this planet accept our friendship, we could teach them how to travel through time and space, how to create and scientifically immortalize organic life, and how to create energy to sustain their planet's resources and atmosphere. Knowledge grows when shared, and depletes when taken.

If they have questions, we could give them the answers.

If they want to learn, we could teach them.

If.

I can see the surface. I see vast lands, and metal structures. I see moving vehicles. I see large waters.

I can't wait any longer. I must begin navigating my descent. Considering the size of this ship, I think it would be best to disguise it as something trivial from this planet. I do not wish to draw attention to myself until necessary.

I must bid goodbye to you now. This journey must end, so another can begin.

To my family: If I do not return or contact again, do not assume the worst, and do not come for me. Just remember that every life matters. Every life is important. Every life is equal. Start there. Everything else can be solved.

Finally, I must address the Gallifrey High Council: if you're expecting an apology from me for "borrowing" this ship - this TARDIS - without consent, I must disappoint you again. It is a complicated machine, and I'm still finding new compartments and sections in it everyday. There is an entire universe within these walls - one I am still exploring - but I have a good feeling that she and I will become good companions. This may be our first adventure, but I have a feeling it won't be our last.

It is only fitting to end with a promise - one that I live by and extend to my family and all Gallifreyans: Never cruel or cowardly. Never give up, never give in.

Before the ship lands in London, it transforms into a blue Police box. As the occupant of the ship steps out of said box, he sees a group of beings walking around the Trafalgar Square. He smiles, waves, and says ---

"Hello. I'm The Doctor."

Inside the ship that now looks like a Police box on the outside but is bigger on the inside, the following transmission is received on the control panel's display from Gallifrey:

Doctor -

Don't trust the humans.

Hide.

We are coming.
