And as I walked those roads...

And as I walked those roads

That led to my obscure path

Where dancing shadows greeted guests

In hostile hospitality

Sending shivers that lasted the night

And the melancholy of Luna's charm

Pulled you into itself and far from being

You or your own again

I thought of the rain...

And sometime

I thought of you too.

I pondered awhile

If its sharp rhythmic tone

Spoke to you too of things it whispered to my nights

When its long nails rapped my room's tin roof

As it impatiently waited

Unused to be kept waiting and only waited upon long

But my fancy caught only by your thoughts

Till it returned a little red perhaps

And left harsh lettering on my window pane

They somewhat resembled my eyes' gain

From thinking of something that elsewhere belonged.

And still as I walked that path today

The fragrance of fresh mud in me raised

Ashes of a hundred varied shades

Amongst the smoke rising in my mind

And to the rhyme of the rustling leaves

On which my thoughts claimed right

I walked and walked though my legs of tiredness cried

Till no thought was as loud within my mind

As the one which was too clamorous to be heard

And too strong to any sense for long belong.
