Candle Fundraiser for Alzheimer's

On Sunday, Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church will host "Autumn Lights," a candlelight fundraiser to raise awareness and financial support for the fight against Alzheimer's disease. Source

The outdoor event, which is sponsored by the church's Senior Adult Council, will be an evening of songs and prayers illuminated by candlelight.

Participants will be handed a glass jar candle votive when they arrive, which will be lighted at dusk.

All revenues will benefit the Alzheimer's Association of Guilford County. Participants are encouraged to make a donation in honor or remembrance of a loved one. In October, a commemorative prayer booklet listing all honorees and donors will be issued, with donors receiving a complimentary copy via mail.

Wesley Memorial relatives and community friends contributed $8,585 last year, earning the church the county's top fundraising team.

Alzheimer's disease affects around 6 million people in the United States, and deaths from the condition have grown by 146% since 2000. Alzheimer's disease is expected to affect 14 million people by 2050. Alzheimer's disease will cost the United States $355 billion by 2021. In 2050, this figure is expected to reach more than $1.1 trillion.

Any school or church can do this. Selling candles has become a very popular way to raise money for finding a cure. If you would like to find a candle fundraising company near you go here. To see a comparison of candle fundraiser companies go here.
