Chasing a dream

We all have dreams. Children dream to grow up and become a doctor or maybe a pilot, a young lady dreams of her charming prince that will propose to her in a fancy restaurant with a romantic backgorund music and through the light of candles, a man dreams of being promoted or maybe starting his own work.
But these are all dreams, they mean nothing. It is not a past neither a present or a future. Its only the imaginative skills of our brains trying to escape from the reality, taking us to a world that does not exist. A world where everything is perfect. Where you can get what you need, change the situation to satisfy your taste, and shaping all the details in a way that will not harm you.
So why do we dream? no one stands in front of his mirror asking himself, why am I dreaming? We just have this intuition to dream without returning to the reason. We may look like wasting the time that we already lack. Living in a world controlled by the speed, where we fight to get 5 more minutes of sleeping, running to catch the metro or trying to pretend that the red traffic light is only a green hidden behind. But instead of that we keep on dreaming.
So let us stop the clock for couple of mintues. Let us take a pause and stare onfront of a window. Take a look outside the window and ask yourself where you are now, how you arrived to this point. What were you doing all day long and why were you doing that.
I tried it myself and found myself looking through a window in the city of Paris. With garden mixed in the beauty of nature through its colourful creations, and the scent of the pleasing rain drops that guaranteed the life of this nature. Oh, wait a second. I am a medical student studying in Irbid, Jordan which is thousands of miles away from here. How did I arrive here? and what am I doing in Paris.
I took a pause and realised how I could arrive to Paris ten days ago to spend the vacation away from the pile of papers that I have to read everyday, and the long boring lectures that is full with words unexplainable to either human beings or any other creature with a functional brain. It was just a dream!
Yes, it all started with that imaginary, unrealistic and time wasting dream. A dream that one day I will spend my vacation taking a selfie with Eiffel Tower or drinking a hot cup of coffee in a prestigious cafe in the Champs Elysee with a marvellous sun set. The dream grew up, it went from imagination to determination. And eventhough the way was too long and edgy but I could do it at last. Whether missing an expensive non-refundable unmodifiable flight for only 5 minutes or let us say 300 seconds or being lost between two cultures that needs a new article to be expalined by istelf, it was worth it.
Ok, few days to get back to my desk, with a new pile of papers and a full schedule of lectures and labs. But it was also my dream to become a doctor. Getting back to my flat in Irbid away from my parents house in Amman but it was also my dream to live the college life as it meant to be.
So our whole life is about dreaming. We are what we were dreaming days, months or years ago. It is not a time wasting, it is time investment. Planning your future and drawing a path that will lead you to the person you want to be. The path maybe steep, long or boring but try finding detours. And since there is no gain with no pain, do not let the tears of frustration ruin your dream. Take one step ahead and dream of your life. GO and chase that dream!
