Closets Closets Closets Closets

This title wouldn’t sit well with the mighty Jay Pritchett. It would get his blood boiling like a mad man any day. He isn’t a fan of that old fellow, Earl Chambers, and the two have always been at war with each other. But the last I heard, they did try and put an end to this rivalry like how grown-ups would have done it but only a long time ago. Anyhow, they both feel dearly for closets and I guess it was their mutual love for these majestical beings that we all house in our homes that brought them together. I wonder if this would make their fictional characters love us human beings, living the non-fictional world, much more than they love themselves or each other because come on, you’ve got to admit, we all too dearly and oh, so much love our closets!

It’s dark and damp and lonely and uncomfortable and I don’t know why but it smells funny in here, inside these closets, but we have managed to build successful, long lasting and almost real worlds for ourselves in each of the many we all reside in. I guess you give anything enough time and space and it almost very well finds a way to make its place in your life and before you know it it’s made you its slave and you cannot imagine life without it. That is how we fell in love with the many worlds we all exist in, all at once, within these very many closets that we house in our hearts and minds; we made them up, built them all by ourselves piece by piece, nurturing them with time, effort and care and now we just cannot seem to let go. And don’t let anybody tell you otherwise. They will lie, deny that they got no closets they live in but don’t give in to their false claims. They have mastered the art of lying through their teeth; they will look you straight in the eye and their lying souls won’t flinch the tiniest bit but do not for a fleeting second believe them. It might take you some time figuring out what exactly these closets are, why they exist and how they function, considering they come in all shapes and sizes but don’t let that dampen your expedition into this unknown and unexplored world of closets, closets, closets and (more) closets.

This land of infinite closets is as fearful as it is intriguing. You will want to stay away but your inquisitive self will fail to keep you from it. You see, it’s important to understand your enemy in and out before you sit down to devise a plan to kill and conquer. I regard this land of infinite closets as enemy that we must kill and conquer because I have witnessed this land turn its people into selfish, scared, spineless, insensitive and multi-faced cowards who know all that is right and just from evil and wrong but continue to consciously choose indifference over love, killing their conscience at every step of the way. What leaves me bewildered beyond imagination is why they continue to keep up with the façade; it has been evident time and again that these appearances have only harmed them and their loved ones and more often than not brutally and terribly. But they still don’t give up residency of these closets they so much love. Maybe they fear life outside of them so much that they’d rather continue to suffer in pain and anguish.

These closets have increased in numbers exponentially in recent times. They are everywhere, build by everybody, for everybody. No discrimination here; you could be man or woman, white or black or brown, fat or thin, pretty or ugly, religious or an antagonist, these closets are available for all to construct and live in. We are surrounded by so many that we don’t even realize we have left one and walked into another as we go about our everyday routine of meeting people, going places, talking and sharing and existing. And each of us safeguards that one thing we hold most dear to our hearts within these closets, deep down in that safety vault. That is the very reason they came into existence. To preserve, to keep alive, to keep away from change, and to keep breathing when all else around this thought/idea/concept/belief has perished and has been long gone.

But do not let this leave you gloomy and upset. Fortunately, these closets however pricey carry no value. They are doomed and their end is inevitable, if not today then tomorrow. And if not tomorrow then day after. I chose not to put down illustrations here of the very many closets you will find in the world or already know of because apart from the very obvious reason that my list wouldn’t cover it all, it is important for me that you recognise for yourself the closets you have knowingly or unknowingly built around yourself and the ones that you feel surround you, and suffocate you. Only when you will identify and call out to this as a large scale issue that needs to be addressed and fixed will we be able to demolish these closets and live in a world that is free in the true sense of the word. After all closets are for clothes, not for people.
