Deciphering Us

We were the birds flying into the sunset,

We were the flames that attracted moths

We were - the eye of the storm,

- the tale of the abyss

- the adventure of a lifetime

And the sorrow of some.

You were the red of the sun

The blue of the ocean

The white of a flame

The tint I can't explain

Because I saw only black,

- At least that's what you said.

I was the shackles that bound you

- the love that grew you

- the memory that killed you

and the flame that burnt you

I was, the salvation

that saved you.

Until we turned into broken shards

That bled of red;

Spoke of sins

that mingled into the wind;

We let the ocean wash our guilt

Into the never-ending pool

Of trash we fill.

The sun still rose -

The same shade of red

I paint my lips with;

It still shines softly on

your lonely silhouette on the cliff.

I see it caress your shoulder,

Like I did the day before.

I watch and count

the steps you take.

One bated breath,

one slight tumble.

It wasn't my fault.

I just watched you

Fall to your death.

The birds fly away

Right into the sun.

Like moths into flame.

Like,

me into you.

Like,

Me, after you.
