The Dreamer

They told her to live her dream,

But they stood above her like the grim,

Telling her that what she doing was not right,

That she won’t know success, try as she might.

Scared, she backed into a corner and looked around,

She was afraid that she’ll stay stuck on the ground,

Shadowed by those who had dared to take the flight,

She thought, ‘How had they overcome the fear of heights?’

Her question was answered by the tales of their greatness, which others told,

She said, ‘Someday, you’ll tell my tales.’ She had become bold,

They saw her and sensed a threat to their life of peace,

She could bring chaos.

They cursed her for having sinned,

They pointed at her and grinned,

She was punished for a crime of which she was not guilty,

Her dreams, her hopes became fantasy for her, like the Yeti.

The bud was smothered by the thorns,

Which didn’t protect her but killed her, made her one of them, the unknown,

‘Those birds were lucky, not everyone has His favour.’

She was not lucky but common, they told her.

The caterpillar stayed in her cocoon and never became a butterfly,

Like guards, around her they stood by,

They never dropped the watch, the question which haunted them was, ‘What if she started to fight?’

Until the air was left no more, her pulse stopped & short of breath she died.
