Driveways

You sit there in the passenger’s seat on this windy night as we drive down those same alleyways that made us who we are on days like these which needed no definition. It has been a long time since we last looked for promise in a world that never ceases to break them, not thinking twice about the time when it will run out of promises to break.

I know 54 different languages and you have travelled to 27 different countries. And yet here we are on a dusty highway, trying for our lives to seek out love. The skies overhead are getting saddened by all the dirt that our hearts have gathered and it is just a matter of time before it starts crying, trying to wash off these guilt ridden driveways that our hearts long to follow.

Tonight, I want to find ourselves in missed chances and leftover choices, the ones that defined us more than we could ever define them. These roads are winding, my dear and you sit with your window open, as a fierce wind caresses your face. The raindrops will pour down very soon as we take the highway that takes us to a place that once felt like home.

Tonight, I know how we have travelled together on the same road but have somehow drifted apart. All I want you to do is look into my eyes, under the pouring skies and reach out to a rusty old love. Maybe tonight, we need to crash in order to truly heal our half torn hearts.
