Drowning

Memories are double-edged swords
And most of the time,
they remind you
Of everything you want to forget
Of the way he used to smile
How he called your name
And wished you a good night

Sometimes, you stare into space
Or maybe at a clock
And remember how life used to pass by quickly
One day, he is your everything
But things fell apart at the seams
Then suddenly your heart is broken into pieces
And all these beautiful stories
of how you met
Are nothing
but fuzzy memories

You drown yourself in coffee
Or maybe in fancy wine
Because you think you deserved that
But it's never enough
So you mix everything you can find
Tequila, vodka, and whisky
Maybe a little rum and lemon zest
And you don't even care how it tastes like
You just want to forget

You drink until your mind stops remembering
You down vodka shots till everything's blurry
And you laugh because you can't feel the pain
You dance because you're having fun
and you don't need him
You talk to other guys and let their hands wander
Because you're not hurt
And you don't care anymore

His name becomes a distant memory
Loud music drowns his voice
And you forget what it was like
To have him stare at you
Like you are the only beautiful thing left in the world
So you take shots after shots
Until alcohol washes away all of his traces
And the world fades into oblivion
