Find me

I suddenly pushed the blanket away from my head feeling suffocated. My hair was all over my face. I couldn't breathe; I tried calm breathing while tucking my hair behind my ear, and shook the person beside me. I just couldn't sleep. I blinked once, twice - no response. This time I shook her with all my might whisper yelling her name, loud and clear.

“I can’t sleep, Adi!” I shake her fast enough to get her out of her sleep.

“Go back to sleep baby.” she slaps her hand on my face, taps it several times and goes back to sleep.

Do you know why she is asleep? She’s drunk. It was her bachelorette party this evening. She is getting married in a day. I push away her hand and slide away from the blanket. Gosh, I am sweating like a pig! I straighten out my hair and slip out of the bed. I grabbed my pull on and walked out with the help of the light of my phone. Obviously, it was dark and the only light beaming was either from the sky or from the lamp outside the palace. Yes that’s right! A palace, she’s getting married in a freaking huge palace. Not in my 24 years of life had I been in such awe. The place was amazing and had real cool architecture, might I add the ancient cultural and traditional Indian way of building came to light.

I walked towards the corridor where the soft breeze blew across my sides. I felt a little chilly so I clutched the pull on tighter. I walked towards a small area which would simply be called as a semi terrace. Lights emerged from either sides of chambers and the pillars gave it an extravagant look.

I stood there, arms folded in order to keep myself warm, looking towards the far, far away. I don’t know what exactly I was thinking about. My thoughts flew towards the broken relationship I had with the love of my life. I sighed deeply and a lone tear escaped my eye. Not allowing it to fall, I wipe it off and shut my eyes tight.

“You know, crying over past relationships is not exactly the solution” I jumped a good half feet in the air. I turned around with a startled look and with angry sentiments. Ya I was angry alright!

“And you know, startling someone might kill them and put you behind bars, which is not such a good idea” - Who says that? Urghh! What a dumb ass move. I hold my phone screen towards him but he’s way too far. Not even his face is traced with the shitty light.

“Well you think a lot ahead of time you know that princess”.Princess? Princess my ass. I strained my eyes to see into the dark and the only thing I could see was a shadow. I was sure it was a guy because, duh the voice!

“How did you know what I was thinking about? And don’t call me princess” I spat.

Silence

“Why don’t you come into the light?” I asked the curiosity clear in my tone. I waited for a snarly reply, but silence again.

“Think you’re gone” I started walking towards my room but again.

“Whoa no lady, I am right here.” he said.

“Are you ugly?” I asked. He laughed.

“No why?”

“Then have you impregnated a girl and now denying it?”

“No, why in the holy heavens would I deny it?”

“So you impregnated a girl?”

“No” he hissed.

“Then why wouldn’t you show your face?” I scrunched my brow together “Are you scared I won’t find you handsome?” I joked, he snorted.

“No as a matter of fact I am scared you’ll fall in love with this handsome face” now, I snorted. Pssh!! fall in love with him. I shook my head disapprovingly.

“What’s your name gorgeous?” he asked.

“Angelina Jolie and what’s yours, Batman?” I mocked, sarcastically.

“Well what a coincidence, I am Brad Pitt. Batman is an old dude” Cheesy, I thought. I can tell he’s amused, cocky, arrogant, and an ass. I narrow my eyes to see him. Oh lord, finally someone capable of my sarcasm.

“How about you come to light and I’ll tell you my name?”

“How about a no?” Urghh! So damm stubborn. Well you’re no less, I thought to myself shaking my head.

I sigh heavily and give up. I don’t get to see him no matter what. I tried to ignore it and clutched my pull on tighter. I once glanced at him and started walking towards my room. As soon as I took my first step, a hand grabbed my wrist and pulled me back. My back slammed onto something hard and realised it was his chest. Damm it was hard and it left me hot. I inhaled sharply closing my eyes. I could tell he was close; I could feel his breath on my neck.

“How about you find out, tomorrow?” he challenges me. I try to wriggle out but he tightens his hold.

“You’re hurting me!” I whine. He eases his hold and waits for a response. I look sideways and try getting a look but dang it, he won’t move plus there is no light. He’s quite tall and has a broad chest. I can tell he’s got a good body and boy does he smell good. The presence behind me is gone and so is the hand on my wrist. I heave a sigh of relief and start towards my room.

“What? No goodnight hugs or kisses?”

“You wouldn’t show your face” I say over my shoulder while walking away.

“Find me, I’ll be waiting” I move away and away from him. “Hey come on, your no fun” oh now he’s pouting, I think.

“Whatever Batman, We’ll meet tomorrow.” I call over my shoulder right before stepping into my room and the last thing I hear is a soft chuckle.

The next day morning, I woke up to the sounds of hurls. Aditi! She was puking her guts out. I ran towards her and rubbed her back while holding her hair up. She gasped and puked, gasped and puked, and finally when she stopped puking, I helped her to bed. I called the kitchen and asked for a cup of coffee and some lime water. Then, I placed a painkiller on the night stand and covered her with her blanket. Finally, I grabbed my pull on and started moving out.

“Adi, don’t move. I’ll go downstairs and get you something for your hangover, alright?” I asked her to which I am rewarded with a muffled yes. I walked down and straight towards the kitchen. I find the kitchen chef and he shows me inside. I walked towards the kitchen and found my coffee and limewater on a tray. There was no one around so I grabbed it and walked outside. My gaze fell on the counter and I stopped in my tracks. I found a box of snicker chocolate bars. I smiled widely and grabbed the damm thing. I then, walked outside and a chill ran through my body. Damn, I didn’t realise I had walked out in shorts. I shut my eyes and began praying that I wouldn’t be caught by Adi’s parents or even worse, the groom’s parents in such ‘inappropriate’ dress, embarrassment wouldn’t leave me till I reached my grave! I headed towards my room, quickening my steps. I took a sharp turn but a voice stopped me.

“In hurry, are we?” I turned around to find a shirtless man, in his late 20’s, tall as a fuck, smirking at me. Oh no, is it him? Bat man!

“Uh! Batman?” he narrows his eyes at me confused. Oh thank the lord.

“Is this the part where you ask me about my favourite superhero? ‘Cause it’s not Batman, he’s an old dude” I stiffen. Does he not remember me?

“Umm I gotta go! The bride in trouble” I walked towards the room and open the door, but before walking in I hear a ‘Nice shorts’, I flip him off and walk in. I placed the tray on the table and woke her up.

“Adi” I shook her shoulders.

“Adi wake up” her muffled groans are heard. Finally out of frustration, I ripped the blanket off of her and she yells.

“Damm you woman, shut up” I cover my eyes. Her scream died on her lips when she realises it’s me.

“Tasha” she placed a hand on her chest and took deep breaths. I shook my head and placed the tray in front of her. She gulped the lime water in a go and shut her eyes. I could see she was feeling better. I picked my coffee and went outside the room. As the calm breeze slid my cheeks, I sipped my coffee and devoured it, smiling. I looked to both the sides and thought to myself “No one must be up. Its 6:45 am, people are hung over and sleeping.” Just then the door beside our room creaked open and again a shirtless man walks out. Urghh! What is it with shirtless men at this wedding? I ignored him and had a sip of my coffee. He did not speak anything as a call interrupted him and he walked right back in.

****************************************************************************

“Oh my god!” yelled Adi, “I am going to look horrible!” She held her face in her palms and sniffed. Yeah, fake sniffs.

“Shut up Adi” I glanced up from my laptop and gave her a pointed look “You’ll look great” I went back to my work. I am a reporter by the way, and my name is Tasha Hope. I am an orphan, well used to be since I am an adult now and Adi’s parents adopted me. Not practically, but mentally. We went to same school and from then on we were inseparable. She’s getting married to her college sweetheart, Anirudh. The three of us were known as ‘The Three musketeers’ that’s until Adi fell in love with Ani and they became one. Well not literally but you know what I mean.

“Oh shut it” she fell on the bed, face first.

“What time are you going to start getting ready?” I asked knowing she’ll take least 3 hours.

“What’s today?” she asks confused. I shook my head no.

“Nope, just to roam around see the place. You cannot really walk out in shorts” I cringed at the memory from this morning.

“Yeah” she ran towards the bags and produced a blue jeans and a white dress top. I gave her a confused look.

“You, my darling best friend, are wearing this” she held it up. I shrugged and continued my work.

“I am going in for a shower” she yelled to which I just nodded. She was going to be in there for a good long hour. Once I was done with my work, I made my way to my bag. I picked up the clothes she asked me to wear and placed them on the bed with my inners and a towel. I hadn’t gone out for a run today. It was irritating me. I lay down on the bed till she came out, wearing her robe, and I walked right in.

After I was done with my shower, I walked outside in my robe and found Adi on my laptop, talking to her better half. I grabbed my clothes and started getting dressed. Then my gaze fell on my wrist. It was bruised. Oh my god! That asshole gave me a bruise. I continued dressing and brushed my hair. After that, I started putting my clothes together since I was to leave back to New York, in a day. Adi and Ani were to go on a month long honeymoon to Spain and then return back to New York.

“Adi get dressed please” I hissed with annoyance. She ignored me for the seventh time and that is when I lost my patience. I snatched my laptop away from her lap.

“Ani, will talk later, bye” I only heard a ‘No wait!’ before I shut him out from Skype. I gave Adi an annoyed look. She puts her hands in the air, giving up.

“Alright alright, I am getting dressed” she huffed and simultaneously pulled on her jeans. I grabbed my chocolate bar and munched on it. Well technically it’s wasn’t mine. I kind of robbed it.

“Alright I’m done, let’s leave!” she dragged me out. It was calm outside so we decided to spend the day together walking and talking. Her getting married would affect my life because she wouldn’t be staying at our apartment anymore, she’d be with Ani. Of course I trusted Ani with her. I trust Ani with my life. He had been my strength my support, my best friend. But it would still make a difference.

“You know, this marriage is going to make a lot of difference” I said, breaking the silence. She snapped her head in my direction and I could see water in her eyes.

“Don’t say that!” she exclaimed as she jumped towards me and embraced with a tight hug. There she was, crying her heart out and I, on the other hand - just numb. I didn’t understand how I was supposed to react. Be happy because she was finally getting married or be sad that she wasn’t going to be with me in my apartment anymore?

“Alright that’s enough ladies” a voice pulled us apart, It’s Ani. I looked up and smiled. Adi looked up and pouted. He pulled her up and gave her a tight hug. I crossed my arms and a small smile made its way to my lips.

“Alright lovebirds, that’s enough. Stop before I puke” I joked making an effort to ease the atmosphere. They burst into fits of giggles and I smiled contentedly.

“Okay I’ll leave you two alone for a while. Don’t start eating each others’ faces, alright?” Adi stuck her tongue at me while Ani gave me a pointed look. I walked towards my room and took out my laptop. Then I headed to the garden of the palace, sat on a bench and continued my work.

“Well aren’t those jeans a little too tight for you?” I turned around to find that dude from the morning incident. Well he’s had a shirt on now.

“Haven’t you any other work?” he snorted and sat beside me. I narrowed my eyes at him. He just raised a brow, and I shrugged.

“So what’s your name?” I blinked in confusion. Was he the same dude from last night? I believed he was. But he seemed different; to be honest he was a little taller.

“Well how would you know?”I thought to myself.

“I just know.”

“Hmmm”

“Oh shut it.”

“Helloooo?” he waved his hand in front of me to get my attention. I snapped out of my daze and puffed out air.

“What do you want?” I hissed in annoyance.

“Just some of your time, gorgeous” I eyed him quietly. Was it him? Should I ask? I nodded with a hum.

“So what’s your name?”

“Angelina Jolie?” it sounded more like a question. I wanted to check about the previous night. He narrowed his eyes at me and smirked.

“What is with you and celebrities?” It’s not him. Nope, nada, not him. I heaved a sigh of relief.

“Sorry, I’m Tasha” I extended my arm for a shake.

“Nice Name Tasha, I’m Nikhil” instead of shaking it, he kissed the back of the hand. I snatched my hand away, as soon as it touched his lips. He chuckled, shaking his head.

“So what are you working on?” he asked.

“I’m editing some data for my boss, I’m a journalist” He nodded his head.

“What news channel do you work for?”

“News one” his head snapped so quickly towards me, I could have sworn I heard a crack.

“You stay in New York?” he asked with raised brows.

“Uh yeah, why” I asked confused. He smirked and nodded.

“Me too” Oh this was weird.

“You’re with the bride or the groom?” This is interesting.

“Well technically both. They’re my best friends” I smiled; he nodded “How about you?”

“Umm Ani is my far away cousin but we’re more of best friends” I nodded.

“So what’s your family like? Same as Aditi or?”

“I’m an orphan” I replied bluntly. He snorted at first but then I gave him a look and his smile dies.

“Oh I’m so sorry, I... I... uh” he trailed off. I inhaled and exhaled.

“It’s okay, I am used to it” I smiled. I looked at him and he has a sad smile on his lips with pity. I hate people pitying me.

“Anyway, I gotta go. I’ll see you around” I stood up and walked away.

****************************************************************************

“Tasha” Adi squealed and hugged me “I’m getting married tomorrow” I hugged her back with a smile. I could see people dancing to soft music. Just youngsters, might I add.

“May I have this dance, pretty lady?” I turned around and saw Ani. I smiled at his childishness and placed my hand in his.

“Of course, good sir” he laughed at my pathetic attempt of posh language. We swayed to the music. He kept his hands on my waist while my arms on his shoulders.

“Ani”

“Hmm”

“Take care of her, will you?” I asked.

“Of course” he said understanding my emotions.

“She’s a baby sometimes, you know that”. He just hums. “Also you know how annoying she is”.He chuckled and nodded. “Don’t hurt her, alright?”

“I won’t sweetheart. You of all people know it” I nodded placing my head on his shoulder. He was the only person close to a brother. A tear escaped my eyes and he wiped it with his thumb.

“May I cut in?” Nikhil cuts in. I looked at him curiously. Ani just nodded. He kissed my forehead before placing my hand in his. At first it’s a little uncomfortable, but then he realised that so he put a little gap between us.

“Hi” he said.

“Hi” I replied smiling.

“Did you rob my box of bars of snickers?” he asked to which my eyes widened and I stopped swaying.

“Oh shit, I am so sorry. I had no idea...” I was cut off by his laughter.

“It’s alright” he said still shaking with laughter. “Okay Okay I am sorry” I dropped my arms and started walking away, him following behind.

“Hey wait” he grabbed my wrist “I am sorry” he said smirking. I nodded and mumbled an alright and moved towards the lake. He walked beside me.

“So what’s with the Batman question?” I smiled to the memory.

“Well the other night, I wasn’t able to sleep so I came out in the corridor for a walk. I was lost in my thoughts and I didn’t sense anyone else. Just then.....” I told him the rest of the story sitting on the bench, cross-legged.

“Well I am very sure it’s the watchman” he said. I slapped his arm playfully and narrowed my eyes.

“What can I say, you say you didn’t see him, he was there at the night so I kinda put 2 and 2 together” he said, smiling. I shook my head amused.

“Well no, I don’t think so” I said thinking who could that probably be? I heard shuffling noises but I ignored it the first time. But then I heard it again so I turn my head towards the noise, my eyes turned into slits.

“Umm what’s wrong?” Nikhil asked concerned. I shook my head no and continued to doing nothing. I heard faint conversation going on, but only one-sided. I strained my ears to listen and I heard someone fighting over something, sounded more-like a couple’s fight, over the phone.

“It was nice dancing with you” said Nikhil suddenly. I smiled a small smile and returned back to the conversation but now it had stopped.

“It was nice talking to you about my issues, feels good to know someone’s here” I said more to myself than to him. He smiled and scooted closer to me. I have no idea what had gotten into me but I let him near me and rested my head on his shoulder. Automatically, he pressed his lips on my forehead and the warmth spread through me. I smiled to myself. Guess Batman was right after all - crying for someone from the past is useless.

****************************************************************************

“Wait.... Stay still Adi” I hissed out of frustration. Damn this woman didn’t know to stay still!

“Okay that’s good” I said, adjusting her veil. It was the time of her vows (pheras) and she looked fab. She wore a bright pink lehenga which gave her exquisite finish. Her hair was made into a style which I cannot really describe. I took a last look at her and smiled. She looked good, scratch that, she looked ravishing. No don’t think dirty of me, I am straight.

“Wow” I gasped “You look amazing, Adi” she blushed. Yes, the blushing thing was something that I had not seen her doing since, like ever! She took a look at me and scrunched her brows.

“Tasha what in the holy hell are you wearing? Go get dressed” I looked at my attire, shorts and t-shirt. Oops looks like I forgot to dress up!

“I will leave once your mom get’s here Adi, I don’t want to leave you alone. I know you might run away or hyperventilate” she nodded knowing what I meant. The door creaked open and I heard her mom walk in. She gushed and hugged her daughter, with knowing number of tears in her eyes.

“Adi you look so beautiful, baby girl” she kissed her forehead and turned towards me. I was busy looking at the mother-daughter affection with a sad smile.

“Tasha, I know your thoughts sweetheart, but I just want to thank you for looking after my baby girl. Just remember that we’re not only Adi’s parents but also yours. We couldn’t adopt you practically because of Mrs. Hope, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t our daughter” she said caressing my cheek. A tear escaped my eye and she wiped it.

“Okay alright, get ready quickly. I’ll walk Adi down” She smiled, kissing my forehead. I nodded and gathered my toiletries and walk in. I turned on the shower and heard Adi yell about her going out. In matter of minutes, I heard the door click open and some footsteps followed. I hurriedly switched the shower off and went to grab my towel. Urghh! I forgot my robe, now I have to walk out in the towel. The room was empty not that I would mind Adi being there, but still. I reluctantly walked out in my towel and towards the bag area. I quickly started dressing and finished wearing the lehenga. Mine was a navy blue lehenga with sparkles and tingles all the way long till the end. I started brushing my hair and put it into a messy bun, but added a professional touch to it. I took out a pinch full of hair and kept them dangling. I added some make up touches, here and there. Now coming to the difficult part, the veil. It was a nice long dupatta with small sequences to its end. It clicked and clacked every now and then while I walked. I placed the dupatta on my right shoulder and tried fixing it to my left waist but the damn thing kept falling off. I tried once or twice more but then, I got tired. Who wears this anyway? I scrunched my face.

“If you need help, why don’t you just ask?” I froze. It was Ani. I turned around in a swift just to bump into his chest. He smirked and winked. Since when is he standing over here? Jesus! Did he catch me wearing my towel? Holy hell, Oh god! No. Don’t blush don’t blush don’t blush don’t blush, why the hell am I even bushing anyway? I closed my eyes and let out a blow of air.

“How long were you here?” I questioned. He smirked and I face palmed myself.

“Don’t worry, I didn’t see anything you didn’t want me too, yet” he winked. Now I blushed.

“Umm so you know how to adjust that?” I asked pointing to the veil, he nodded. His hands start towards my waist.

“Wait” I stop him and he looks up “Where did you learn?” I ask narrowing my eyes. He chuckles and continues towards my waist.

“You see princess, I have attended a lot of arranged marriages” I stopped his working hand to look at him. “And you help them adjust their dupatta?” I ask with raised brows. He shook his head no.

“I googled it” he smirked when I shivered at his touches. My hands were now on his chest, whereas his one hand was on my waist, and the other one holding me from behind. He twirled me around to adjust my dupatta at my shoulder, and his fingers lingered on the bare skin of my shoulder. I inhaled a sharp breath and exhaled, once his hands came back to my face. Then he grabbed a safety pin and attached my dupatta to the top. Finally, he adjusted the dupatta length to make it even at both ends.

“Beautiful” he whispered while my cheeks turned pink. He pulled me closer and kissed the corner of my mouth, thereby startling me. I froze. What just happened? Anirudh, the groom just had a flirt time session with me and kissed the corner of my mouth? Was this for real? Was he cheating? Nah! He was just helping may be. He chuckled and pecked on the top of my head and started walking away. I grabbed his arm and make an effort to speak.

“T... T...Thank you” I stammered. He smiled and bowed like some British man before walking away. I stared at his back while he moved out of my room. I snapped out of that daze after a good 20 minutes. Finally, I walked out and towards the wedding hall. When I got in, I found Ani and Adi busy in some conversation and I saw mom (Adi’s mom) talking to the priest.

I went and checked all the arrangements, just to make sure everything was going on as planned. In between, I catch a glimpse of a man staring at me and just when I looked at him, he looked away. I shrugged and walked towards the drinks section. I found people being served food and drinks. I walked towards the food section, contented with the drink area. It was all going fine. I then walked towards the stage where Ani and Adi were all prepared to take their vows. Ani whispered something in her ear while Adi started giggling and blushing. That was something I wouldn’t want to know in a million years. I scrunched my nose is disgust and continued thinking about the snickers bars which I stole. I was hungry and my stomach was rumbling. How about I sneak into the kitchen and grab a bite? I thought. But then mentally shook my head thinking Adi would kill me if she found out I was hogging like a pig. I went and sat down, far from all this. They both stood up and went in for the pheras while I sat there, bored. My best friends are marrying each other, and what was I doing? I thought to myself.

“Too much in thoughts, are we?” I turned to look up from my lap, to find Nikhil looking down at me. I smiled and looked down again. He flopped down beside me and poked me.

“Oomph” I yelped with surprise and looked at him, brows scrunched. He smirked and shrugged.

“You look beautiful” he whispered in my ear to which I responded quickly, by shivering. His smirk widened as he scooted closer and quickly pecked my cheek. I gasped and touched the place where his lips just met. He pulled me closer to himself and hugged me. I thought it was just the need of hourand I hugged him back. He rested his face in the crook of my neck and his hands were on my back. I felt him smile when I relaxed.

“I love you” I stiffened. How? Why? When? Many a thoughts cross my mind and I stopped thinking straight. I didn’t know what to respond back so I kept quiet, and dazed.

“Uh… I... Umm Nikhil....” I continued to stutter but he cut me off.

“Shhhhh” he held me tight. A tear escaped my eye and I sobbed quietly on his shoulder. He pulled away and looked straight into my eyes. My eyes moved to the floor. He smiled and kissed my forehead.

“I don’t have an answer for you” I said quietly. He chuckled and caressed my cheek with his thumb.

“It’s alright” he continued to rub soothing circles into my back “Take all the time in the world” I nodded. Just when we were about to walk towards the stage, we here a shriek.

“Oh. My. God” Adi squealed excited and ran towards me, to hug me.

“I am married” She jumped up and down, making me laugh.

“Okay okay relax” she was making me spin around in circles. I stopped her and looked her straight in the eye. I saw a tinge of sadness and lots and lots of fond memories. In minutes was hugging me and tears had started escaping my eyes, gushing out.

“Shhhhh, baby girl” I cooed. She hugged me for quite a long time while I whispered instructions in her ear.

“You’re married now, no fighting, no hitting Ani and in no case taking back to Ani parents, Am I clear, beautiful? “She sniffed and nodded.

“Good” I smiled “Oh and one last thing don’t eat out each other’s faces while am away and have fun at your month long honeymoon” I winked at her, thereby making her laugh.

“I don’t want to leave you alone” she sniffed.

“I’m not alone sweetheart” I kissed her forehead. “Well since you’re away, Nik will be accompanying me” she looked up with a devilish smile dancing on her lips. She opened her mouth to speak but I held her lips in my pinch.

“Nope, don’t you dare play matchmaker” she pouted making me laugh.

“Alright fine ladies” Ani cut in “Time to go baby” Adi nodded. Ani looked at me and some expression settled in his eyes but I could not really point it out. Everyone walked out from the hall, leaving only the family members behind. Ani and Adi’s mom were busy planning their babies while their fathers were busy talking about politics. Adi was talking to some of her cousins that left me, Ani and Nik. Ani suddenly enveloped me into a tight hug, hiding his face into the crook of my shoulder. I didn’t know what exactly he was feeling but I knew something was wrong. I caressed his hair and cooed soft words into his ears.

“Ani it’s alright, I won’t be away. It’s you who is leaving” he hummed.

“Ani what’s wrong?” I asked worried. “You’re genuinely scaring me” his hug tightened on me now. He started pulling back but stopped right at my ear.

“You couldn’t find me princess” My eyes widened and I stiffened. It was him all the time, how could I have not thought of this, all the while? I felt something wet on my neck and I came to the conclusion that he was crying. I cradled his face in between my palms after pulling away and look straight into his eyes with a lot of questions. He leaned into my touch and closed his eyes.

“I love you” he confessed looking into my eyes. I stopped moving and my world just froze. I didn’t know what to feel. My best friend, my only girl best friend’s husband just told me that he was in love with me! Tears of pain start gushing down and he rubbed them with his thumb.

“Ani... I... I...” he shut me up by placing his lips on mine for just a second and then pecked my forehead, leaving me still in my tracks. I looked around to see if anyone noticed us, but there was no one other than… Nikhil! Nikhil was watching, all this while! He looked at me with a blank expression and walked away leaving me still and frozen on my spot.
