You glance his way, no eyes stand averted
Conversation smoothly makes in its way.
Would you like to go out, get a coffee maybe?
He smiles and turns to you, “So, what do you say?”
And before you know it, you’ve begun to wonder
Where is this going, why does it feel like rain and thunder?
A few drinks later some secrets are spilled
And you think this chance meeting is just enough to keep your tiny heart filled.
A stroll in the park, you now walk hand in hand with him
Some time spent together and soon you ask, “Your name, isn’t it Tim?”
And he isn’t a stranger now, not anymore
But what is he to you, you wonder. He walked in through which door?
Your guard is still up but you are willing to let it go
Slip a little and hide your moral compass, you say it’ll all be over before somewhere special this goes.
He, however, pursues and doesn’t stop his relentless chase
And you for once surprisingly do not stand hazed.
So, you let the running around continue mindlessly
And pat yourself on the back for getting over me.
You reason it out all in your head
And let the stranger take over you and my space in your bed.
This stranger isn’t a stranger now, your silly heart moans
You convince yourself he knows more about you than anyone has ever known.
My love and I begin to lose meaning with each passing day
Don’t cringe now and tell me, what do you want me to say?
You close your eyes before you begin to look around
Forgetting that you must let love in before it can work its charm.
But you prefer the stranger now, Oh! What a great escape plan
You keep reality from knocking on your door, planning dates with your mysterious new man.
He says he wants to know you, not a little but all that you are made of
He makes an honest to God promise, he says he’ll keep it for sure.
And you willingly hide behind his eagerness and hollow pleas
All the while wondering where are those who’d said they would be by you whenever the need.
But after a few months you begin to feel yourself slip deeper into this pit
But wait, there’s only strangers around, you see it now, it hits.
You grow frantic and wonder what went wrong and where,
You ask yourself how did you end up down here.
Soon after you decide to snap out of it, this facade once and for all
You go running back to your house filled with faces you’d always cherished and adorned, the ones which you thought you had lost.
So, let the strangers be strangers, love.
They don’t know you how I do.
But if you still want to run away there won’t be me stopping you.
So, choose wisely dear one, because strangers can remain unknown
But if you lose the ones who truly love you, you’ll be left all alone.
