The Garage

Info

“It gave me peace when I am alive and I should rest in peace there”, said Mr. Peter pointing to the garage in an indistinctive voice before he passed away. Neither his wife Mrs. Eva Peter nor his daughter Mary knew about what was inside the garage. It all started twenty years back, when they had sold a car and left it abandoned.

Mr. Peter would come straight to the garage from his work, even without stepping home. This behavior of him made his wife and children perplexed. They tried so many times in vain to find the mystery behind the garage. He would enter in rush, anger, despair, frustration and when he come out, he comes out fresh with clear eyes and little smile on his face.

He kept it locked always and didn’t utter a single word about it or gave the key to his family mates. Sometimes, He used to take ceramic tea pots, mugs and glasses but never returned them. Mrs. Eva used to check his credit card bills which were filled with payments made for glass articles, ceramic cutleries. Whenever they had a discussion on this, it ultimately ended in a clash and he would go to the garage straightaway and returned normal few minutes later. Though his obsession with the garage made them curious, worried and confused, the fact that he needed it restrained them from involving in it.

After his death and his last wish, Mrs. Eva and her daughter had a chance to open the garage. Their minds were filled with curiosity. The garage was on the south-eastern side of the house. As they rolled up the shutters, they couldn’t even open their eyes. The reflections of sunlight from the shattered pieces of glass were all on them. They could see a heap of shattered, crashed pieces of glasses, ceramics, plastics etc.

All through these years, he had been a stressful techie. One thing which made him relax was demolishing things and pounding materials. Whenever he needed relaxation and peace, he entered the garage, battered hard at all those materials he bought especially for this. They could even see a camera on the ceiling and some footage disks. They were shocked to see the arrogance in his face when he destroyed those things. They understood how the stress of job, family and children suffocated him and how he sought peace desperately. Though arrogant while striking, it made him relax internally. Their eyes were filled with tears when they found that they haven’t paid any attention to his problems. As per his wish, they cleared the garage, buried him underneath it and the garage remained closed forever.
