Ignorance or innocence?

It is really dreadful for me to conclude any thing.

I was waiting at the bus stop. There were a group of friends having fun. They were teasing each other and laughing. And out of no where the topic some how shifted to women, girls and their duties.

One of the girls sadly mentioned that there were only girls born in her family and she is crestfallen that their dynasty has got no heir to continue her family's name. It did not end there. She was also worried that she or her female cousins could be of no help to to their elders since they will be married off and will have to leave their maiden. She also mentioned that one of her servant-maids complained that because she had served the family who couldn't bear a boy child- she was cursed to give birth to a girl. This young lady was so sympathetic to her maid that their misfortune has engulfed the poor soul and she could have a boy!

I was astonished on hearing these words. This did not end here. Another girl in the group consoled her that it was in their fate and karma follows!

Like seriously!!!! Isn't she a girl herself? How could any person degrade herself/himself? And let me tell you these people are Engineering students pursuing their project at an esteemed Central Government organization where I recently joined. Young minds! What has happened to them? After all the education and knowledge has gone in vain. Whom should we blame? The upbringing of their family or the education system that has failed to impart wisdom, self-respect, affliction towards themselves in them.

Even today, the mind set of some people has not changed. How can a woman be empowered if she herself doesn't want to? Is it really a bane to be born as a girl or to give birth to a girl? Well I don't think so! My sister and I were never treated in an ill manner. Till today such thought hasn't crossed my mind. Is it only a boy that will carry the family's name forward? Can't a girl do it with her deeds? Why can't  a girl ever be helpful to her parents?

Firstly, a woman should love herself. She must respect herself. She is not an inferior creature. In fact she is the creator of the world. She bears a child for nine months, nurtures it, nourishes it- without women the world wouldn't exist.Men and women should bolster each other for the betterment of not only the society that we always fear but for a peaceful mind as well which is rarely regarded.

This incident has left a deep scar in my heart. Now I am seriously worried about the fate of our nation which is going to be in the hands of the youth with such attitude!

Karma follows!!
