Indian Parents:How can you make your daughter feel safe at home?

Info

It has been 67 years of independence and we Indians call our country so-called "democratic"..Do we really live in a country where men and women are treated equal..Anyone reading this must be like "obviously No' because we talk about unsafety issues with girls. Society or parents can stop a girl from going out at night, not roaming about much on roads because they think its unsafe..But, how many of them really know that their daughters feel most unsafe and insecure in their families..

Yes, what I am going to share through this article is not a fabricated story or a drama but a truth behind every smiling innocent face of a girl whose childhood was snatched at some point of her life.In my own survey I found out that among every 3 girls, 2 girls are either being raped by their own family member or molested badly at some point of their life. They have been raped and re-raped for a couple of years. Most of the studies say that 96-97 % of the sex offenders were known to the victims. And yeah, this does happen.Any girl below 14 years of age who has undergone sexual relationship with anyone, willingly or unwillingly.. comes under the category of being "RAPED".Government can assure the parents the safety of their daughters outside homes but the first responsibility of protecting a girl child come to parents. In my conversation with a few teenage girls, I found that most of them at some point of their childhood have resisted sexual assault by the members of their own family members-uncle,cousin brother, grandpa and even dad.

Come on! Where is our country heading towards? Due to hesitation , no girl dares to share this with their parents.I t becomes the responsibility of the parents here to make their ward distinguish between a "good touch" and a "bad touch",to make them aware of the abuses a child can undergo and to cultivate a friendly relation so that they never feel hesitated in sharing the extremities of life. If such small steps are not taken, the condition in India will prevail with people asking government a girl's safety from outsiders and at the same time a girl being assaulted sexually a numerous times by their known offenders.
